General Replacing Rear Bushes and Wheel Bearings ..

Why... oh why do people keep posting "I've sent you a PM"?

As soon as the recipeint signs on, they get a notification that they've got a PM. They see the notification and the PM before they see the post saying "I've sent you a PM":confused::confused:

Because the older you are the more likelihood that you wont see it :)

I know a really good engineer, but can only just post on a forum.

Rather not take the chance.

On topic, I found my garage didn't replace one of the brake shoe spring clips, and that's prob why my rear bearing is now goosed.

Not a happy bunny.

he has carpet in garage? suggesting he has lived there for a long long time

Nah! no clue, but worse case ya ;) :D

Evening Damien.

All of the things you asked me about in the PM are reasonably simple jobs to do except the wheel bearings. The hubs are not always easy to remove(especially if the bearing collapses) so a bearing puller is deffinately the easiest and safest option(compared to hitting it with a hammer like most do).

If you don't want to do it yourself I'll sort it all for you. Just texted you, hope it was the correct number ..

Thank`s for tools shadeyman it was well worth the slight delay as without these tools job would have been impossible to do correctly as another poster said these are the dogs ********. only problem I encountered was main Fiat dealer could not supply correct bolts had 3 goes before they got it right.:D(y)

Shipped an axle via TNT to kello in Ireland today, longest distance I've sent one so far. :D

STU,
I got axle and got it fitted by my local mechanic. Brought car for NCT(MOT) and it passed fine. Different car to drive with new bushings in place. Much smoother to drive and glides over bumps. Everything in boot used to rattle like crazy when car was idleing.

Thanks for your help.

hi shadey, put of curisosty how much do you charge to replace the bushes (mot time next week) and although i am sure (hopeful) there fine, if they are not i would like an idea if cost and i dont trust the main dealers to do it correctly.

thanks

robin

I charge £200(parts not included) to replace the bushes while the axle is still attached to the car. Normally take 4 to 5 hours but I did one Sunday for sharkytaylor that took me all day(8 and a half hours). Hydralic Draper bearing puller failed, had to resort to "Old Faithful", the threaded bearing puller I first used a few years ago but got the job done in the end ..

Thats a good price as long as it was done correctly. Post the contact details of the garage here so others can benefit too .. (y)

the garage is in north yorkshire kirkbymoorside near scarborough and called kirkby mills garage a very honest guy and the courtesy car was a 02 punto lol perfect for a fiat driver the driving experience is so much better and smoother and even my work colleuge who i give lifts to said he noticed the difference in ride and comfort no banging at rear and more stable paul
