The program MultiECUscan can be downloaded from their site for free (free version that is)
Cable can be picked up for a few quid off eBay, get a 3 way single cable or an elm 327 cable with 3 separate adaptors (which read various different areas of the car (airbag, abs, body computer, dash, etc))
A single elm 327 cable and free MultiECUscan will let you read engine codes and clear, also monitor data
You say 3 single cables?
Maybe I can ask you to link me?
if I search for Elm327 on ebay i find a cable with a usb and a "reading-plug" and a CD - is that the one?
For starters I would recommend just buying the elm 327 cable and free version of MultiECUscan and playing around with that until you know what your doing
You could probably get the cables cheaper than the links but beware of dodgy cheap cables.
Thanks

Sometimes the elm won't read with my adaptor cables, therefore when reading airbag etc I use the 3 adaptors on a vag cable..but like I said, if your new to this then a simple elm 327 will suffice with free MES
