Re: "Wiring A Punto Stereo To Ignition Using ISO" (yellow red wires)

Hi, everyone,
I wonder if any of you knowledgable chaps could answer a question about this guide for me, please?
I have a 2005 Punto Mk2 Active i.2 and want to fit my Alpine CDA-9812RR in place of the Blaupunkt radio/cassette player, so that I can play cds.
The ISO socket for the power on the Alpine only has two wires, red and blue. The installation diagram shows the permanent live (yellow) connected direct to the car battery through a choke already in the wire and the earth (black) connected directly to an earth point on the chassis. This is how I wired the radio into my Mk1, recently demised.
Can I put the yellow and black wires into the ISO socket for the radio? I will need the connectors to put into the ISO socket to do this. Does anyone know if the terminals (crimp on?) can be bought separately and, if so, from where??

Re: "Wiring A Punto Stereo To Ignition Using ISO" (yellow red wires)

So....
Got the connectors sorted! My local parts shop had a box of bits at the back of a shelf with unsaleable oddments with damaged packaging. In the box were two ISO connectors which they gave me, foc!!
Having read the guides and a number of answers I am now confident that I can wire everything up.
My only concern is the wiring diagram for my Alpine head unit shows the permanaent live connected direct to the car battery. On the cable from the head unit there is a sticker which says "high current drain connect directly to fuse box or battery. Do not connect behind dash"
I assume that this may only apply if I connect the pre-out to an amplifier, which will NEVER happen. I only want to use the radio and cd player.
Would someone reassure me, PLEASE, that I can wire through the ISO connecter on the car and not have to grovel under the carpets etc?
Otherwise I can now install the head unit in about ten minutes and have the job finished.
If someone would help with a reply I would be VERY grateful!!
Cheers!

Does anyone have five minutes to spare to reply to my last post??
Don't want to set my car on fire!!

My advise is if your not 100% sure then get a professional to do it. Like you say, you don't want to set the car alight (y)

Re: "Wiring A Punto Stereo To Ignition Using ISO" (yellow red wires)

Im A bit confused. Can you take a photo of both blocks please.
Many thanks for your reply.
The Alpine head unit has two ISO connector blocks, one for power and one for speakers.
Will post pictures tomorrow, as soon as I get new batteries for my camera!!

Cheers.

Sorry for the confusion, especially to volkstu, having a senior moment.
When I referred to ISO sockets, I meant, of course, ISO plugs on the head unit, that all other head units have.
My only concern is whether or not it is safe to take the permanent live from the head unit to the ISO connector on the car, through the ISO connector for the head unit? in view of the warning on the cable from the head unit (see earlier posts).
If I have to connect direct to the battery, can anyone tell me where there is a grommet that I can poke the cable through into the engine bay. I had a look and there doesn't seem to be an obvious place.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have a spare minute to give an opinion, please???????????

Re: "Wiring A Punto Stereo To Ignition Using ISO" (yellow red wires)

I think im with you and i would just connect the permanent and switched lives to the ISO permanent live. Its fused in the fuse box anyway.

Many thanks to all for the advice & info.
Have at last had time to attempt installation of Alpine head unit. Started by modifying the iso connector from head unit as the guide by nik0.
Removed old hu, plugged in Alpine hu, switched radio on, powered up fine--when I turned ignition on, radio went off and would not switch on again. Turned ignition off and head unit powered on again after 30-60 seconds!!
ISO connector on car wiring loom has five connections--Pin 1 pink/blue, pin 3 pink/white, pin 4 red/white, pin 5 grey, pin 8 black. I am sure pin 8 is earth and pin 5 is to connect power aerial (not fitted).
Please, please can someone identify the other connections and suggest how to connect my hu so that it works. My sanity depends on it!!

Re: "Wiring A Punto Stereo To Ignition Using ISO" (yellow red wires)

im struggling too with a 2004 Punto getting power to my HU

but the 2 thinner Pink and white wires are the ISO connectors that tells the stereo to turn on and off - however how much power they carry is probably very very little....

Hi Ziggy,
No-one else appears to have come across this problem but you and me!!
I intend to try to sort it myself with a wiring diagram, multi-meter and a bit of guess work (intelligrent hopefully).
If I get it sussed I will post my findings--hopefully it may help anyone else who is struggling.
