Wondered if any one here could help me?

I put my LSD for sale on Ebay recently and keep getting questions to answer of what Fiats it will fit,

One question is will it fit the Punto HGT?

Can anyone tell me if it will or not?

Thanks(y)

No. It fits the FIRE gearboxes. Nearly all cars with the non-turbo FIRE engine basically. There is already an existing Quaife part that fits the HGT box.

Item number? :)

Had a read through this whole thread :( lol and couldn't find what I wanted..

I have a 100HP want to know which part of the 6speed fails when increasing the torque? -is it the Diff?? or othe internals?

-Cheers Andy
This thread is concentrating on getting grip to the road via an LSD as opposed to making the box stronger in any way. Very few have made enough power to brake the standard boxes, unless they have broken through long term wear or been used on high power projects after already having 80,000 miles on them.

I have seen failed boxes where the mainshaft pinion is totally worn down to the point where it has nothing to mesh with the crownwheel. This will happen if you constantly do standing starts with half the torque you have. You normally have to drive like a wrongen to break the standard differentials or they break with normal wear after very many hard miles.

I have around 107 lb ft torque and haven't noticed any wear in about 10,000 miles, but the box was very low milage to start with and my car is light. Syncro isn't very good on these boxes from new in my opinion and it wears quickly.

Hi, as mentioned previously I am very interested in making an offer on this LSD for my Cinquecento. It is fitted with a 1242cc 8v engine and a Punto Mk1 6 Speed 'box. Can you confidently confirm that it is compatible with this 'box? Please let me know as I am very keen to make an offer

Got this question about fitment, i think yes it will fit as its the right engine but didnt want to give him the wrong answer? is the Punto mk1 6speed box going to match the LSD?

Thanks again

My old car was running silly boost and 134lbft and the its gearbag and diff were holding up fine, I just stripped drive shafts

If the 6 speeds are that week maybe a few more people putting effort into making it fit the 5 speed would be good for all

Sorry to hear you are selling up Donna, this is the only thing that would have given your car the chance to reveal it's full potential:(

I also have the mk1 6 speed gearbox and the crownwheel is most definately bonded. If he were to make it work with this type of gearbox then i believe a pm to rallycinq wouldnt go a miss after he had his sorted by a machining company to convert the crownwheel to bolted i think, dont quote me on that but im sure that was the general jist with rallycinq's. I'm sure he'll be along soon to state the facts.

I now have my diff fitted in my turbo cinq.
I now have a question. Do these diffs make any noise when working?
I know plated diffs make a right racket.

I ask because when im giving the car "some" I get a strange crackley (hard to explain) noise. not sure if its the diff or the box (fitted when i fitted the diff and its very low mileage)
defiantly from the gearbox side(passenger footwell)

I've never had a crackley noise. I get a feint whirring noise sometimes from the passenger side when flooring it out of a side street. Mines fitted to a 6 speed on a 500 though so maybe not so relevant?

The number of gears in the box won't make any difference. The diffs do make a whirring noise as jnoiles says during particularly tight or very fast moderate cornering, i.e. when it is being worked a lot. It's exactly the same noise from my Westfield's ATB under the same conditions. I don't think anyone would call it a "crackling" noise though, so that sounds like it could be something else.

the noise is not very loud at all. and a guess a cinq has more engine noise then a 500. mines got no sound deadening or anything like that so i can hear everything.

my box is also a 6speed

That'd make sense. I think you should come to Mallory Park this saturday for the open pit track day. You can compare the noises with my car :D

Sorry, missed the post.

It was a hell of a job and as expensive as the diff to get the machining done.

We machined a ring to bolt to the diff to provide a landing for the crownwheel, then machined the crownwheel with a step so the crown wheel can be taken off the diff and the diff will look standard.

Cheers

I'm currently still waiting to find out if the complete bolted diff/crownwheel part available from FIAT for a 1108 Sei 46810249 has a crownwheel that will fit into the Quaife Diff directly.

Unsurprisingly it is taking forever to turn up!!!

If it won't fit would you be willing to point me in the right direction to help me get mine machined up the same way - how much do you mean by "as expensive" literally around £575?
