Technical Punto MK2 Lowering

I have a dilemma
I want to lower my car enough to give it a good look but not too much to wear out my shocks. I know 35-40mm is as far as you can go without damage to the shocks but i cant find any kits that are 40mm . All seem to be 35mm or 50mm. Here inlies the dilemma... I dont think 35mm will look low enough, but 50mm is gonna wear my shocks out.

Will these sort my problem or will it be too low for standard shocks?

People just use 50mm spirngs and havn't had many problems before, what ever lowering springs you use over time the shocks may go, depends how much money you have to spend. 35mm will settle at around 40mm once the springs have set in mate

Hi, im going to be lowering my Mk2 on 40mm springs with 15" alloys, just wondering if there will be any problems with the tracking or camber after i have done this?

few weeks before the springs arrive so plenty of time to book the car in for a tracking test or whatever if needed.

Also i hear some of the bolts seize and can be a right c*** to get off, anyone know where i can order some replacements from if they're unusable after i've taken them off?

I got my car lowered either 40 or 50mm....and the ride is actually better than the original!!!

Cost = 0 ....DIY

HAD MY HGT ON 15"WHEELS lowered 35mm koni springs £80 labour free!!! tech at work dun it for me i helped looks fine handles better lost the bodyroll!! took bout 2 hours as one of thr front shock bolts was siezed and neede some "gentle" persuasion.rear took bout 20 mins to do front lot more invoved.

-50mm on 17"s, it is possable, mine scrubs on the rear under hard conering and with 4 people in the car, i have not fitted spacers tyre size is :

-204/40 R 17
- PDC 4X100
- -50mm spring on optional extra sporting shockers(slighlty lower, slightly stiffer than standered sporting shocks)

The only down side is, i had them on for about a month and had to replace the front shocks, now i need to replace the back, so im going to look into getting some uprated shockers. just to help with conering, then strut brace followed by power flex bushes all round

Hey all i've been umming and arring about getting mine lowered, i now think i want to get it done. My car has (17/40/205) i think and when i am on full lock the tyres rub on the plastic lining, the rear wheel has a 16mm clearance from the edge to the arch. I have been told to fold my arches before attempting to put 40mm lowering springs on is this a good idea?
Also should i take the plastic lining off?

hello,
I'm a young lad who is going to buy a Punto HGT, now im wondering if 17" wheels will fit nicely under it. Maybe I'd like to lower it aswell... but i'm looking forward to put new rims under it also body kits would look nicely? or should I look forward to abarth bumpers? I have no idea where to look. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to get some info about lowering and rubbing and what kind of setup would do nicely, without having problems with bumps.

My thought was 17" rims and abarth bumpers.. ? any recommendations?

Read all of this thread, and am wondering if this is the solution for me (Punto HGT, put off a bit by it's body roll) Thinking a Koni 35mm kit might be the way.

Would I need any special tools (spring compressor or something?) to fit the kit myself?

im not attually sure what the offset of these wheels are, all i know is they came off a vauxhall, since my last post i have replaced the front shcoks with coil overs and replace the rear shocks with uprated, shorter and stiffer shocks, im panning on lowering the front bit by bit, its and about 50mm now but want to see how far i can go, but i need spacers first as teh front wheels wil catch the lock nuts on the coilovers if i go any lower lol

on my hgt i have a set of bilstein b8. this set is desinged to work with lowering springs.
in the future i will buy a set of eibach lowering springs.
my question is:
am i causing any damage to the shocks by using them with the original springs?

By adding shorter springs, you are making the shocks work harder, which will cause them to wear out faster.

The lower you go with springs, the faster the shocks will wear out.

Depending on how low you go, you'l probably need to by uprated shocks in the future. I wouldn't bother though until your old shocks are knackered.

Im gunna lower mine to 60 maybe 70 on 15 deepdish anyadvice for springs etc
