right i dont usually come on the punto forum as i have a cinq myself but my sister has a 2000 X reg 1.2 mk2 punto and the pipe that joins the backbox is totally rotten and needs replacing so i wanted to know the following.

Has anyone fitted a backbox to a mk2?

does anyone know where i can get a peco or similar sporty one?

and how much should either cost?

any help is much appreciated

hmmm I wouldnt like to try and fit one to a mk2, have you seen the position they are in?! (or would you be getting it fitted?)

I'd go to a custom exhaust place, if you can find one near you, see if they'll fit a nice one for you. (but it wont be a make, unless you go to powerflow)

My cat-back exhaust cost 250quid fitted, so it would be cheaper for just a back box. But I dont know how much Peco/Magnex are.........

shes just had a standard backbox fitted which cost £38.50 all in.

fiat came up with this brilliant idea to make all the exhaust one piece right up to the cat so to fit a new backbox you have to cut the old one off and slide the pipe on the new backbox over the original pipe on the car and clamp it up.

what a pathetic idea there complte rob dogs now.

for anyone intested these are the cheapest "performance exhausts" i could find

Janspeed backbox stainless fitted same as above: £149.50

Peco cat back system in stainless: £206

i didnt think the peco was a bad price but she didnt have that much to spend.

The Younger Modder, i have a Peco BB2 back box for sale off my mk1 if you're interested. just get a garage to weld it on as i had it chopped off to make way for my new one.. nowt wrong with it at all.

i'll take £20 for it, i see you're only in Stoke.

I've got a Punto sporting MK2 - a few small holes have appeared inthe centre box near the welding joint, for now it's plugged with gun gum, what would it cost to buy a replacement from the CAT back or can anyone recommend a place in North West London that does exhausts? Just want something similar to the original, not bothered about noise, TBH the quieter the better, don't want to attract the attention of the police when about town or neighbours as I pull in the drive at 2am.

And its nice to see my thread revived makes me look more popular :)

What is next up from Standard?

I've never added anything to my car except a MP3 CD System and a car Alarm.

So not really into modding or anything, but what do other types of exhaust system offer? Are there any fuel or performace benefits from other types of exhaust and if so what kind of prices are we talking about compared to standard?

On the subject of Exhaust, I have just got off the phone contacting my local exhaust centre's for a quote for a standard exhaust from back-Box up to the cat, with fitting + Vat, for my 1600 mark1 cabriolet. Quotes from people like Kwikfit, Ebley, and so on, range from £116 to £161. Then Phoned a motor factors that just sell Exhaust and most genneral parts over the counter, and they will deliver it to my door today for £38.96. (y)

i got a 4 1/2 jap style back box from hothatches in stoke and then took it to unique exhausts in stafford to get it fitted it was £40 for the fitting and the exhaust was £100 it HAD a nice gurgle to it

THREAD HIJACKING!

Whats the best place to look for proper straight through exhausts? I don't want just a backbox or anything, I want the whole thing.

Any ideas?

???
If you were really in the market for a straight thru decat racing exhaust you would know where to find one, believe me.

You can get a less restrictive exhaust, the whole thing replacing manifold + cat as well would be good but cost as much as car is worth. Only viable option is whats called CAT back sports exhaust. Prices vary from £160 to almost £400
Also notice our 8v cars only have 1 box in system so I would imagine exhaust is already less restrictive than a 16v cars exhaust. I'm after one cos I have a 2003 car needs new exhaust tail and mid, car should last another 5 years or more so stainless may be worth it if only another £100. Back box changed by previous owner not that long ago but does not seem to have lasted at all.

Supersprint are apparently excelent. Y
ou need:
814412 straight pipe mid
814405 back box
If I could find this for £250 fitted I would buy,
I cant get god prices though so will probably follow other link and buy MIJ as other link sugests.

Whatever outcome I dont expect a lot more power,
I may be wrong Id like to know what others say about *v standard engine + sport exhaust or sport exhaust + induction kit.

Best simple thing for power IMO is a new air filter every 6000 miles whateve manufaturers say. 5 min change yourself. About £5 fron a proper motor factors.
Oil + oil filter on most cars probably every 9000 miles too.
Never ever let garage change oil without changing filter.
Some people dont change for 20,000 miles or more, like they forget about it.
if air filter is black thilthy you loose economy + power.
Could be even be down 10bhp on standard if never changed oil, plugs + filter although plugs can last a long time these days.
