ok i want more power from my car, i know the 1.2 8v isnt exactly a powerful engine but its fairly zippy, how would i go about possibly getting the standard bhp of around 59 i think up to a more impressive 100 ??? is this possible? any advice would be greatly appriciated, could i remap my cars ECU? i heard from one of my mates that you couldnt remap an 8v ecu?

thanks
Tom

to get anywhere near 100bhp from that engine, you are going to be looking at spending serious amounts of money. it would be far cheaper to buy a punto sporting.

Uhm, my 1.2 8v have 75 hp (75SX). New better exhaust and open air filter maybe will give you another 10 hp? Sporting seems waste, better buy a GT :)

There's 2 versions of the 1.2 8v engine, a single-point-injection one (similar to the SPI 1.1) and a multi-point injection. The SPI unit is fitted to the "Punto 60" models and outputs ~59bhp, the MPI is in the "Punto 75" and produces about 75bhp. It's probably possible, in theory, to fit the MPI system to a 60 (and more than likely to a 55) but it's more expense and hassle than it'd be worth. The 8v engines have non-remappable ECUs; basically, you just ain't gonna get 100bhp from any of the 8v engines without resorting to NOS or forced induction (e.g. turbocharging).

If you want a bit more pace without doing anything massively complicated/expensive,, stick to simple mods. A K&N induction kit, Denso spark plugs and a de-cat pipe have made quite a noticeable difference to my 55 (produces 54bhp as standard; I'd estimate between 59 and 62 bhp with the mods as it's now faster than a standard 60). Also service it regularly using good quality oil - GTX, Magnatec, etc - as that makes a surprisingly large difference to engine response.

cool cheers guys, maybe i'll just put a K&N on there and de cat the exhaust etc, wait for the hardcore mods until i get my next fiat , whenever that may be!

Hmm...

Tune the 1242 8v? Why yes!

erm, Air Filter. zorst.

Then consuider gasflowing the throttle body, porting the manifolds.
Im going to do that, then stick a Punto 75 cam, in, get the compression ratio raised a bit by skimming, and a remap.

Im looking for around 80BHp at least, would love 90-100, but cant really see that!

Yeah, a tuned engine in a small car is always fun.

Look even works mathematically ;):D

Fun = (Power x Handling) / (Weight + Money)

you can use a 40mm tb on the spi 1242, they make one hell of a difference,
i have a 1242 in my sei, with a chip, 40mm tb and open zorst and custom intake, and it is around 80bhp, no less i wouldn't have thought, pulls to redline in top quite easily, 120mph, on a private road obviously.
get in touch with tricker, he has a 97bhp 1242 spi, some really nice mods as well

Get a 40mm throttle body - it will give your car 10% more power (y)
120 Euro a piece + 30 Euro in post charge
Look in my signature to se the different between a 40mm throttle body and a standart throttle body

Thats something to start with :)

I'm having the same engine as you - only my engine deliver 95 bhp (y)
I'd say the 1.2 SPI is worth tuning :)

Cheers

Hi triker, what throttle body can I send to you to be rebore 40mm to be fitted on a 2006 panda 1.2 8v? is the punto 60 any good? which year should it be?
thanks...

Hi, I own a 1.2 also and I have to say I love the grande very much. Could anyone tell me if it is at all possible to get an exhaust tip that you can see rather than having the one that you can't see??
