okay so today i jacked my car up to have a look underneath because of a grinding sound when my car was decelerating. i found that the engine mount rubber had completely worn away leaving my gearbox to move around causing that god awful sound.
so i replaced the part and found it is even worse!!! it seems there is too much play in the rubber or is there another bracket i should check. have i used the right bracket part number: 337650028
by the way i have a 1.4 16v grande punto sporting
Any help at all would be much appreciated.

The correct part you have to replace for 1.4 16v 95hp (na starjet) is: 55700441

so europarts have given me the wrong part? i have just checked there website and they provide the same gearbox mount for 1.4 and 1.2
this is the one i ordered

oh ok, the part number you posted is the eurocarparts product number.

I posted the original FIAT part number.

By the picture there, yes this is the correct part.

What's the problem? There should be no play after you bolt it down. What about the other part on the gearbox side?

the rubber has too much play causing the metal to rub against each other casing grinding sounds and what part should i be looking for on the gearbox side. is it the same kind of mount? i will check it out when it stops raining.

you mean there is play on the chassis side ?

Since the mount is new I find it impossible to have too much play.
Maybe you didn't put a lot of force to the bolt and the mount is moving ?

bolt is fully tight. going to take it to garage tomorrow let them have a look. i think it might be a faulty mount.

I have the same problem with Fiat Punto 1.2 05 plate cannot get any info from Fiat garage it seems as if there should be some sort of collar insert but there is not the hole in the mounting is much larger than the bolt I'm stumped
