The 2023 500e we own starts preheating via the app but with an error message "pre heating failed"
The same occurs when stopping the preheating from the app.
Anybody an idea what causes this?
 
I have had that a few times. My guess is that the app expects a particular response from the car which does not always arrive - maybe due to the vagaries of whatever mobile protocol it is using. Or it could be a software glitch in the FIAT server which handles the data exchange.

Does this happen all the time or is there a pattern to the behaviour? As Ian notes above, the app doesn't communicate directly with the car. In simple terms the app connects to Fiat's server which then pushes the instruction to the car via its SIM card, confirmation back to the app is the reverse process. Any mobile reception issues or lag in the comms response in the chain will glitch the system. My Mini does this occasionally too.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes apart from a few times just after we received the car it now fails either while starting the preheating end or ending it. To be clear it generaties an error message, however the function works. The preheating actually has starten, and it will end if we tell the Fiat app to do so. The car is most of the time connected to the Wallbox. So in my opinion there is a working connection to the Fiat server. Why is this error generated then? Is the car not able to send the confirmation back properly?

It's possible the message isn't being returned properly - either signal issues or server response times. That's why I asked if it was happening at the same location. My Mini occasionally does the same thing where the car responds but the app reports a fail.
