Grande Punto power steering failure when in reverse - punto grande 09

Hey,
I have a punto grande, 09 plate - 1.4 - 8 valve
it first happened friday night at 12am quite cold, started it up then put it into reverse it said power steering fail and went heavy on the steering. Turned it off then back on it seemed to work again, but popped the bonnet checked it over, all was fine as far as I could see.
Got my brother to run diagnostics on it said 20% power lose on it and P0000 but had no information against it.
Has anyone got ideas? What p0000 is? Or what could be causing it?
Quite worried when driving it as I drive 50 miles aday for work

Is this happening every time you engage reverse ?
Tell him to check battery/alternator voltage 1-2 minutes upon cold start.

It happened friday then havent driven it until today and it happened again when I first started it up and put it in reverse, he doesn't have a battery tester and suggested going to a garage and getting them to see what voltage it coming out the battery. Only problem by the time I've driven it to the garage the car/ alternator will have given the battery juice and I dont think it'll give a true reading.

It doesn't matter. Go and tell them to measure alternator voltage and maybe a cca battery test if your battery is old. Also check cables (ground cable on gearbox, chassis etc)
