Technical Pop on, pop off?

some idiot knocked my wing mirror off over the weekend, I found it hanging off

The electronics still worked but I can't seem to re attach it to the stem. My old fiesta ones just used to pop back on... is there a knack with the 500 ones?

i know three bolts hold the stem onto the door as they are the same as the new punto ones they are under a little cover on the outside of the stem, looking at shop4parts its one entire unit, maybe somebody will know a way of reattaching, if not here is the link for a replacement

Kind of know how you feel in a way, found my car keyed again after me replacing two doors on the passenger side....ugh
