Technical Parts conundrum.

I have been trying to get 2 front brake back plates for my 2004 Dynamic for the last couple of months to no avail. I've tried all the regular suppliers e.g. Shop4parts/ Auto dock/ ECP /eBay even a local breakers. Apparently they don't have to be fitted to pass an MOT, but mine are getting quite flimsy and I would like to replace them, even with good second hand ones.
Does anyone know where I could obtain some from.

Are you searching by part number?
I have 51856786 and 51856787 noted down as suitable for the 1.1 and 1.2 with solid discs, and they are available but with ridiculous postage charges from a few places, but obviously worth checking they are the correct numbers for your car.

This isn't a silly suggestion. I've found they definitely don't list all their stock on the website and a quick phone call can often source something that looks unavailable. Very helpful people who have always been very patient with me and sometimes even shared a joke or two while they (often Mike or Mick? - how many Mike/Micks are there?) are searching their computer.

Looks like the same part is fitted to the 1.2 500 from 2012 onwards

Which might give some more options if going down the secondhand route

I took mine off and have never missed them. Rain down here can be torrential but brakes have never been affected in any way that I could detect.

Fiat sell over 1 million car a year and there's 4x per car

So 4 million x say £2 each

80 million in the last.decade probably double that when taking in fitting storage accounts and so on


A lot goes into the design

Heat shield
Airflow
Dirt between pads and rotor
Slush build up
And so on

Kept as standard in working order the brakes are maintenance free between pad changes

Ok Thanks everyone for the prompt replies. I emailed shop4parts, out of stock but would let me know when they would have them in, same with Autodock
I would have thought both of them would have crossed checked other models.

Not sure how I would get my specific part No All I do when searching for parts is enter my reg No and sometimes the VIN

EPER (link at top of forum homepage) is the most reliable based on VIN. You also get the official FIAT name of the part, which can help when searching for one of those hard-to-find "strange" bits when a part number search fails.

I understand where your coming from but if I can get hold of some I'd like to fit them. If not it's not the end of the world as not having them fitted would not be a MOT failure.

I don't trust insurance companies even half as far as I could throw one so, for me, removing a brake related part which is fitted as standard, would be a no no. My 1965 1275 Cooper S didn't have splash shields on it's front discs and the only time I noticed anything was when going through deep water like a ford or very deep standing water at the side of the road. What would typically happen was that the steering would pull one way or the other on initial application of the brake but "normalize" just seconds later. Never put me in a problematic situation.

But it is the same part on the KA mark 2 and post 2012 fiat 500
