General Panda Road Trip Italia

General Panda Road Trip Italia

As far as I'm concerned we won't be able to tag along with the GPs anyway, it'll be too soon for us to go next year I'm planning on spring 2015 but there is some good info on that thread of where to start.

MEP are you going with those guys next year?

I can't see why its to soon to do 2014? There is about 6 months before the meet surly at the moment?

I'm not decided if I'm going with the GP lot yet (TBH seems a lot of talk at the moment, will be good the see something happen, I can't see how there can't be a date set yet for an international event), but might.

I tend to go to Nurburgring anually with a group of friends, so know about about getting over the water and driving on the other side :)

One thing I'd advise is people coming along invest in a CB radio if we plan to convoy (y)

Sorry MEP i meant too early for us as in myself and my lady, due to family commitments, but I will speak through it with her again later. We are going to hit the maps tonight and have a look. It's good to know that people are clued up about driving overseas for a trip out it will help the organisation moreso.

CB radios are a must I agree, I have a midland 38 that I am yet to fit but if anyone needs help with getting one I am sure Dragon Man will be happy to help as he's a pro :)

2015 might be better if there is talk of a camping weekend next year and I know I'd like to do another greenlane weekend. Gives us plenty of time to get it organised and get the funds together aswell.

Perhaps we should get something like this to bring back a couple of 2003 4x4s:

Should only need 3 or 4 Pandas to pull it:p

Right myself and the Mrs have been looking into some specifics tonight and I have also been in contact with a friend in the Italian Panda 4x4 Group.

He (Luca) tells me the best place to meet them would be in the province of Bologne, which is fairly high up the country so not as far to travel. They have a yearly meet here in the hills for three days in June where Pandas from across Italy meet and enjoy themselves. He basically said that it would be "excellent and funny" to have us over and that they would put on a warm welcome which sounds brilliant.

So, London to Bologne :- 915miles (via. Stelvio Pass 1014miles), 17hrs 45mins drive.

The route direct takes us through the north of France close to the borders of Belgium and Germany. Then into Switzerland (straight through the middle direct or via Zurich if we take the Stelvio). Then from Switzerland into Italy (through Milan if we miss out the Stelvio!) roughly 200 miles south from the border and we are at our journey's end.

I have not worked out any costs as far as fuel and accommodation goes as yet but I would say we'd be best aiming for a three-day drive rather than rushing it in two (a country a day maybe?) Luca says he can advise on local accommodation in Switzerland and Italy so I will speak to him later about that, aswell as scrap yard locations!!!!!

Eurotunnel Price :- £47 Each Way per car (based on 3-5 days before returning - price correct November 2013)
Channel Ferry:- DFDS Seaways £35 Each Way per car (based on 7 days before returning - price correct June 2014)

I am still aiming at 2015 for this guys so prices will probably change (y)

I think it's going to be a 2-week booking off work atleast depending on whether we stay with them for the full three days and then go on to do the scrap yard run and also depending on whether we take a scenic route back. But I have to say, I'm WELL up for this chaps :slayer:

i'd like to do this trip but i'd need a fair amount of spending money. more than i am going to be able to mount up for a long time.

given how things are here at home i think that ill have to skip out on it. i broke the bank doing the panda camp so a trip like this is just not possible for me.
besides, some one has to stay behind and look after the forum.

just bring me back a stick of rock.
(by rock i mean electric doors / window winder motors and switches / boot central locking motors)

:D

John you are coming no arguments, I understand things have been well utterly sh*t for you man and it goes without saying that we all feel for your sadness, but at the same time you need something to look forward to and if nowt else my roof rack is suprisingly comfy :D

Lets just see how things go bud it wouldn't be the same without you there

thanks guys... i guess we will have to see. i dont really plan any big future events. i'd need to know good solid dates and how much "living" and "spending" money i'd have to take with me.. there is also the fact that i could be working.. i hope i am by then, but i hope it would not effect anything.

i guess time will tell.

Andy, if we're planning to cut travell costs, I would advice to avoid French hiways and filling stations as well. Do the channel crossing at any point: Eurotunel, Calais, Dunkerque, Ooostende - drive East (via E40 through Belgium) and hit the route south on German side instead , Autobahns are free all the way down to Munchen, small bit throuth Austria ( 8.30 Euro Vignete valid10 day) cross the Alps, (do the Stelvio Pass) and streight to Bologna. In Italy hiways are not free, some express routes and A road are free, I'm sure Luca will advice in that matter.

There is whole lot of nice camping sites at that region, is it only me thinking about sleeping in a tent?

Thanks Jacob I knew some roads were tolled but looking at it now I can see just how many  I will have another look through the map tonight considering what you have said but me and you may have to get together at some point to fine tune the route as you clearly know the area better than me

I will speak to Luca later on but I think it will probably be camping when we get there as the place where we will be staying is in the hills, but I will talk to him and get better info, there are bound to be hotels not far away though :) I will get better informed :D
