Technical Panda 4x4 viscous coupling

That's the company that markets the manual replacement for the viscous coupling (with the lever in the cabin) - they bought the new coupling to help them design the replacement. They sold it ages ago, but never bothered to take it off their website (I suspect they've left it there as a potential source of leads for their products)
Similar to Euro4x4 then who used to sell both the coupling and center bearing (bearing delivered for £64 yes, including the bearing) now, nothing, the bearing was listed uptil last year, the link is now dead and they only do standard stuff

Update - I now have 4WD again. The viscous coupling from Italy works fine - thanks very much to the poster earlier in the thread who suggested a search for ‘giunto viscoso’

the Bad news is that the already tragically-bad performance has been blunted a bit, which doesn’t bode well for a trip to Wales with twin mountain bikes on the roof….

anyone know if the cylinder head off the 16v Punto will fit?

Will bolt on, probably
Will it work, probably not

Just on the mechanical side I can see a few problem, such as the valves will hit the pistons unless you change them for the ones with the correct pockets for the valved, I doubt the pulleys will line up and so on

The 1.2 4x4 engine isn't a standard 1.2
Just about everything is different, camshafts, throttle body, ECU. As the valve timing is different I guess it's tuned for more low down torque

Hoorah…as for power, rag the arse off it, it’s the only way to drive a Fiat…didn’t someone on here fit a turbo to a 1.2 4x4 but had nothing but pain trying to make the ecu, throttle bodies and boost sensors talk to each other?

Every day's a school day - thanks. It's definitely useful to know it's not just a Punto lump in there (I knew the ECU was different, but didn't realise some of the mechanicals were different too)

I don't mind ragging an engine when it feels like it's enjoying it, but the poor little Panda sounds awful after about 3,500rpm and feels like it's going to explode after about 4,500rpm.

The engine out of a 100hp sounds like a great idea, but it's way more hassle than I can be bothered with. I guess I'll be leaving it alone then - maybe a panel air filter to let it breathe a bit easier and I guess after 118,000 miles, a dose of injector cleaner can't do any harm (can it?)

Another really simple way to get more power to the road will be to turn the aircon off..... The compressor is a bit knackered, so every time it cuts in, it's like dabbing the brakes. Still, I think I'd rather be slow and cool than fast(er) and sweaty....

I use injector cleaner, from every couple of month, to every quarter, in all my vehicles.
I know the 1.2 isn’t built for speed, but yours sounds lethargic!?!
The diesel 4x4 has more torque, but sounds more strained if you rag that above national speed limits, still not ‘annoyingly so’.
As for clawing some extra bhp, where there’s a will there’s a way, I suppose it boils down to cost, time and effort or, just getting lucky and landing a bigger engine for nothing

The 100HP engine is not powerful enough to be worth the trouble and bottom end torque is rubbish. The Abarth 500 turbo would be nice and that does cry out for a 4x4, but the "ordinary" 4x4 transmission won't cope with the torque.

IMO, the diesel Cross 4x4 models are the ultimate Panda but you pay for the delights. Then there's the fragile and extremely expensive front bumper and lights. A minor bump could scrap the car.

Can't find any 'performance' air filters - any suggestions? I thought the airbox was the same as the 1.2 8v Punto
