We have a 2006 Panda 4x4 which has performed well through the years. There is one problem though, every time the engine is started, the trip-meter and clock are "reset" and start from scratch.
Does anyone have an idea as to what might cause this "malfunction"

Most likely just a battery

Before the starter starts turning it seen as almost a dead short, if the voltage seen by the body computer falls too low the real time clock resets

You can't easily measure with a multimeter meter

If you data log the battery voltage you can see the voltage brief fall

Here a week battery, that fails in cold weather

Less than £5 in the UK

And the

Free torque lite from Google store

Will allow you to log the voltage similar to the graph above

Also if it happens more on cold days or if the cars not been used for a bit longer period help to confirm

Mine started by failing more often in the morning than the evening, but became more random

I'm lucky in running two car so swapping the batteries is my easiest way to diagnose 100%
