Hello all. A quick question. My 63 reg Panda 4x4 1.3 multijet (120,000mls) vibrates at about 50-60mph, sometimes quite fiercely (particularly up hill) - but only when accelerating. If I take my foot off accelerator, then the vibration disappears. I have had the front brakes checked (jammed caliper was replaced), but the car is still vibrating. Any hints as to cause? No vibration at all at lower speeds by the way.

Start with checking tyres for bulges or deformity and wheels as rats easy. Then check the centre bearing on the propshaft as the rubber perishes. Then check that you have no play in the driveshafts at gearbox end. You could also have a bent driveshaft.

It may be the propshaft centre bearing. You can get the part and have it repaired. Do a search and there is plenty of information on this. The part is c. £40 but you need a decent engineer to fit. AT your milage it may be the whole prop could be with a refurb. or replacement. Filling is something you could probably do yourself but the part would be a bit pricey. Google transmission specialists near you.

If it is the centre bearing then go for a complete prop as even my usual prop specialist was unwilling to try to fit and balance the bearing. They are all the same from MK2 onwards. I have just fitted one bought from ebay for £230 onto my 2014 model and it’s fine. It’s listed as new but it’s definitely a rebuilt unit.
