Hi there, my 4x4 climbing needs a diff rebuild because of a bad bearing in it, is there a way i can remove it, the driveshafts and keep using the car in fwd? Tried to search the forum but coudnt find anyone who did that.

Here you go

Thank you, i think my one works because when it was up on a lift the mechanic showed my that my diff needs rebuilding i turned around the wheels and the front one didnt start moving so i guess it should mean its not siezed

Test it like in the video, just one rear off the ground

It's a sealed unit, replacement is expensive

If it's faulty it will destroy the newly rebuilt diff in weeks

Alright, just to clarify is the coupling the black thing at the front of the diff? Also is there a difference between the diesel and the petrol diff if i end up having to buy a used one?

Yes

As far as I know all 4x4 had viscose until around 2007 then a electric hydraulic system was introduced for some model and eventually the viscose coupling was dropped altogether
