AWESOME news!!! passed my test today, 3rd time lucky it seems! :slayer: get home, give mum a hug, everyone congratulates me, im feeling awesome, really happy, go out for a drive in my car, (1.4 bravo active sport 59reg) and think that finally ive become free from the restraint that is the parents' taxi service (which i love them for!).
having a chilled out drive, music on (jack johnson) then i look at the temperature gauge... almost into the red. 2 seconds later the car is pinging at me telling me to pull over:cry: :bang:. spent the last 2 hours limping home going about 10 mins at 20mph then having to stop to let it cool.
my question is: has anyone else had any problems like this? it seems to me that the cooling system has packed up, like the flow just isnt well, flowing! im thinking maybe a blockage or something like that.
any feedback from you guys (and girls of course!) would be seriously appreciated.

hope your bravo's are treating you well, and be happy in the knowledge that you've got the best looking car :p

Best Regards
Seb

Have you checked the obvious ie any leakage, the level of the antifreezing fluid?
yup done all that, thanks for ur reply, although my reason for this post wasnt to get help with it. (i realize how bad that sounds! and i dont intend it to be rude or anything!) was just seeing if anyone else had any problems like mine.
thanks for taking the time to reply though! have got the AA on the way :)

This is gonna sound patronising, but do you have coolant/water/anything in the tank? if you do then its gotta be a blockage somewhere.

I've had a leak and had very little if anything in the tank but didnt overheat at all!

yup checked all that, had the AA round, first reckoned it was the thermostat, so jammed it open, helped a fair bit, went for a run and stayed normal temp. for about 10 mins, then shot up again. reckons the problem is a partial blockage in the radiator. the radiator just stays stone cold, and blows cold air.
am going to take it in to fiat, hopefully they will fix it quickly!

This is the first I've heard of this in a Bravo!

Had the car been being used recently? Or had it been sat for a while before you took it out?

Thought I'd just say congratulations!! I remember when I first passed, most amazing feeling there is. Good luck getting it sorted swiftly, should't be too much throuble as yours is still fairly new.

thanks mikey! :D

@Papa P:
nope car has been used regularly. mum would use to to run to the shops in etc, id say was used every second day at least. annoying thing is that i will only be in the uk for another couple of days, then am off to europe til september, so wont get to drive it for ages!!!

its annoying this kind of problem, been looking at my mates BMW mini for her as its started doing the same, and it has plenty of coolant.

is this the T-jet active sport?
Hey,
annoying is just the word! nope its the bog standard 90bhp one, no turbo or anything.

Congratz on passing your test!

And i think for the over heating problem first i would check to see if there is a airlock in the coolant system, but i would be inclined to say that the water pump impeller once warm fails to move on the waterpump shaft poss due to a crack or something like that. although ive not had that yet on a 1.4.

But a visit to the dealer is a must... the car has warranty make full use of it.:D

hey all,
the same thing happened again in my Bravo, so sent it straight back to fiat, to find out that they are going to replace the whole engine!!!!
it has only done 2600 miles!
anybody heard of such a case ever before?!
regards

There are a couple of head gasket/engine related issues in the Punto Evo section, but that relates to the MultiAir engine. Not heard of problems with the non-turbo 1.4. Least theyre doing the whole thing though i suppose, rather than faffing with little repairs like they often like to do.
