Took a chance on a small job lot of original used carbs for a winter restoration project. The thing that excited me most in the picture was these two small boxes of Weber parts which I had never seen anything like it before. One is marked 26IMB 4/5 and is still sealed, the other is 28IMB and had been opened. Had a peep inside and I am guessing they are kits to supplement a gasket set for a full carb rebuild. Some of the foam rubber packing has turned to powder so I am going to examine carefully. I will let you know what I find. 🔍 😀

Intriguing....they are in safe hands now. :)

There is a new float, new inlet jet & valve, then a larger plastic cylinder containing a float pivot pin, slow running, main & air jets, butterfly screws, inlet fuel filter, choke cable clamp bolt and nut & clip for top of fuel enrichment device.
Also what looks like three pieces of lead shot which is a mystery to me.
These all nestled in a leaflet which I assume will have instructions and diagrams on it when I unwrap it. Just need to ditch the decomposed foam rubber packing first.

The lead shot will be for resealing those passages that are originally drilled from the outside of the carb and then (I assume) are hammer-peened back in afterwards. That is an amazing set of bits.

Good thinking, I never thought of that 😀
So I lifted the information sheet and was surprised to find more parts, a complete gasket & seal set, new spindle, butterfly & springs, idle mixture screw, brass fuel filter top cover and two spare top cover screws. Only a couple of components short of a full set of parts so having already been opened it may have been raided for a couple of parts.

I don’t think I had seen a data sheet for the 126 carb before. I think I asked Webcon for one years ago and they said they did not have one.

It shows the publication date of 1972 which is the year the 126 was introduced in Italy. I think that the first cars made it to the UK the following year.
So it will be interesting to see what I find in the unopened 26IMB kit 🤔

Treasure indeed Dave.
Ian.
Yes, Peter is corrct with regard to the use of the 'lead-shot'. Quite a number of carb manufacturers, when a passage-way has been drilled from the outside, use 'lead-shot' as the best way to seal that passage from the outside.

Well I had to think wether I really ought to open the still sealed 500 kit or if I should leave it intact. One thing that swayed it was that I wanted to compare the contents which might give me an indication as to wether the 126 kit had been raided. One thing I missed yesterday was on the sealing tape. I had seen that it said it was Type 26 IMB4/5 - 500 but I missed the 500S on the end as in 500 Sport.

The IMB 5 is almost unknown and the same spec as the IMB 3 which is also very rare and the recognised 500 Sport carb. I did restore an IMB 5 recently which went to the owner of an Autobianchi car for which it was the original fitment.

The contents of the container were very much in line with the 126 kit which reassured me the 126 kit had not been raided. No data sheet sadly but if the kit was for and IMB 4 & 5 the the main jets would be different and sure enough there was a 112 and a 125 main jet in there. One thing that stood out was this odd float shaped thing.

On examination it reminded me of the toy container you get inside a Kinder egg so I pulled on it and it came apart.

A lovely little thing that contained a bright shiny new float. So there you are , all the secrets are revealed 😀
