Normally i'm a bit indifferent to kit cars but I absolutely adore this. It reminds me of prototype FWD BMC sportscars of the 60s. I imagine shorn of the tall Panda body it must have a great chassis

Hi, Giacosa, it does indeed have a good chassis as this is the prototype one which was over engineered so all the box section is solid, if you look at this link you can see the work i done so far.

thanks

What paint did you use Kevin, is that a 2k or something else. Certainly looking good now. I think mine has come out darker than I originally wanted but have grown to quite like it now. once all the lights and stuff are back in it might be a bit more to what you wanted. I thought about orange for mine, still wonder what it would look like. Steve.:slayer:

Hi Steve, i used etch primer, them H/B primer then just cellulose paint.

Painting was a doddle but not happy on end result, i filled and flatted the body work, shone a torch across the body and looked fine, even after 1200 after primer, painted it still looked fine untill i put laquer on it then all the indents showed up.....

will do for now, will reasses later in year and might do a primer sparay, flat, spray, flat etc etc till its all gone....then respray......paint was quite cheap really, all the paint, etch primer, Primer etc was only £110.....

at least if i spray again i only need paint and laquer as i got all the thinners, cloths...

i knew the body was well naff, but not that naff....

Well a couple of thingsd to sort first...

chop springs,
sort gearbox leak,
slight leak on water pipe that connects to the thermostat
finish interior( door cards, centre console)
some trim round the inner window fram(just to look nice really)

then thats it, can bring it to shows, meets so long as not too far as not been for long run yet....

Thats what I found with the paint looked and felt perfect till the laquer went on. I had some big ripples on the bonnet on the drivers side that were in the moulding that took a week of hard work to get rid of. I have found that you can fill and flat the imperfections re base coat just in that area and re laquer and you can't see the repair. thats what i'm doing now. The other thing I was wondering if the 999 engine was much heavier than the 750, the reason being the springs might have to be altered to suit? If they are more or less the same then I would stay with 6 to 7 inch.

As far as I was aware they weigh the same. The onyx is looking as cute as a button as ever. Any further plans for the dashboard?

yep, gonna by putting new front on and using single clocks so currently looking out for same style clocks on fleabay...

that is a winter project tho, i only used the pod from panda donor so i could use it in summer, but what summer LOL.

not sure what clocks i need yet,

Speedo, Tacho, fuel guage, water temp, oil pressuer/temp,Amps/Ammeter guage and a red,2 green and blue and amber light for dash lights, then was thinking of using toggle switches for the Hazerd, Fog etc but not sure what to do with the lights switch as its a 2 stage switch on the little cluster of switches.

all to think about before i start purchasing stuff, would like to get them from same place for discount and support if needed.

thanks

Kevin
It is looking superb, but how are you going to fit a towbar to pull the carriage?
Dave

hahaha, i wondered if anyone would notice that, but that would be funny tho, towing that with the family onit LOL.....

kevin

cheers for the comments so far guys, still a small amount to do over winter then should be finished...

yep, looks nice with a touch of yellow...

gonna be doing my wheels black over winter...or what colour you suggest ??

kevin

Looking really nice (y) The shut lines on the doors are very impressive.

Please don't paint the wheels black though, my pet hate. I always think it makes the wheel arches look like a mouth with no teeth :yuck:

Personally I'd keep them silver, have them re powder coated to bring them to life if you're looking to jaz them up. If silver doesn't do it for you then met. graphite grey would look pretty good.
