Well for what it's worth I nipped into FIAT today to have a word with their service manager...
It would appear that after the Service manager conferred be realised that the revised C2-2010 spec had the ‘wear properties’ of the C3. He may not have realised the 'economy tag' of the C2 spec and given that your car is out of warranty he has no exposure.
Is this the best that you can do ?
But what makes the info from the various links provided so reliable??
If you check out the first post on the oil thread the response (#176) I got back from the query (#174) wasn't given lightly. I would be lying if I said that Tim conferred with an oil expert but you could ask him. The responses from Castrol & the Halfords technical team were 'lifted' 'as is' with no changes.
Below is an excellent summary from JR which you might have missed earlier on in the thread...
.... I don't think the issue is so much about mechanical wear as about protecting all the hi-tech devices a modern engine needs to achieve its economy & emissions performance. Using the wrong oil probably won't wreck the bearings, but you just might find you need to fork out for a new DPF/cat/lambda sensor or whatever when you next visit an MOT station.
Unless you want to spend a huge amount of time researching the subject in great depth AND are prepared to use your car as an experimental vehicle, I'd suggest simply sticking to the specification (though not necessarily the brand) given by the manufacturer.
Thought you might like to use this as a replacement avatar since I sense an oil change is imminent.
