Just been into Lidl with her indoors..5ltrs of 10/40 for under £7.00. Any body used it and would it be false economy to use it in my 100 HP.
I have bought bits and pieces from lidl before, wiper blades and bulbs and find it,s good quality kit....
Any views folks. :)

It's been said before- cheap oil is just old oil that's been through a refining process.

Put the two brands side by side in clear containers and you'll see the physical colour difference- the cheap stuff just looks nasty.

At the end of the day it's upto you, but having spent £1000's on a new car is it really worth skimping on something as important as it's engine oil?

errr is it fully synthetic? i certainly wouldnt. the hp takes less than 4 litres to fill anyway, spend the money and put some proper oil in it.. opie oils are good if you want to know whats best to use, very knowlegable guys.

Lidl's product are governed by German trade regulations, which are enforced ruthlessly. The authorities make visits to shops and buy products to analyse them. Even ATE had to recall vast amounts of stock of discs back because they did not fulfill homologation/specified standards.

It is illegal in Germany to sell oil that is reclaimed and not clearly stated.

Knowing Lidl (and Aldi) for many years due to my fathers company being a supplier they only have products of a very high quality and save thre customers with their logistics philosophy the money, which you loose with other competitors in a highrer level of product presentation. The oil will be much better than the price suggests.

However, I would check whether the oil is up to the specification required for your engine and as mentioned Selenia is a choice that is excellent.

To my understanding the 1.4 should not get a 10w40 rather than the Selenia WR, which is a 5w30.

I used the lidle oil in the stilo and didnt have any problem with it although it was 15/40 iirc and to thick [as Oldschool has said]for the 100hp 1.4 engine ..

Why do people keep recommending Selenia WR for petrol engines- it's Fiat's choice for the Multijet DIESELS.

Selenia site- http://www.flitalia.it/en/fl/component/option,com_dspcatprod/Itemid,254/

Read the back of the can if you don't believe me...

Now that I have a newer car [1.2 panda ] I use the Selena 20k [which fiat have discontinued ] that site does not recommend a wide range oil for the 1.2 panda but the 20k which has a higher 10/30 spec ..I was alarmed to find out this when it was used in my car on its first service and I will be bringing this to the attention of the dealership I use :)

Guys.

Its all well and good being exposed to all the marketing of opie oils and oil company's but bear in mind cars will perform ok with the same oil in them for 3-4 years sometimes with many miles done.
