Technical Oil dipstick help!

Hi,

I am currently having issues with my 2006 grande punto 1.4 16v sporting blowing blue smoke on startup and when going up the occasional hill..

I had a call from a fiat dealership garage today and he thought it was possible that the car was overfilled with oil and excess is burning off.

Also, when I bought the car the dipstick in the car was broken so the garage replaced it with the dipstick from a 2006 grande punto, but this car was a diesel.

Are the dipsticks for the petrol version the same length as for the diesel version?

And help with this would be much appreciated!

1.4 16v is showing dipstick as part number 55206822



1.9 derv is showing 55195107

Just double check with the dealer with your vin or ref number before you order

and yes ring your dealer ideally armed with your VIN number ( on metal plate under boot carpet or little slide out plastic flap on drivers side floor) If you cant find it your reg number should suffice

and they will be able to confirm the part number just to be sure

Okay! New dipstick ordered! The parts department also said that the dipsticks for petrol and diesel cars are most certainly different... Ha

Right! I have my new dipstick which is 7.5 cm longer than the other one that was stolen from the diesel car!

Just remember that length isn't everything......but hopefully now you won't be overfilling your oil. Maybe have to try and take some out if new dipstick shows a very high oil level. As bad as having too little in the system.

yes too much oil can do that at worst you can blow oil seals and have no end of problems...

hopefully you might have got away with it

oh bugger! Out of curiosity, what sort of symptoms would blown oil seals show?
N.b. My car doesn't have a turbo

Oil leaking out going all over the engine bay...

the oil control rings should recover all been well since they are sprung but you cant tell till you get the oil to the correct level if it keeps smoking you might need a compression test doing
