Hello Forum....I am new to the site. I (well, my wife) have a 1969 F model. Fully restored.
Could someone from the forum describe how the oil is changed and filter/slinger cleaned? Thanks.
Is this a doable job at home? Do I need to dismount/disconnect anything?
Please post a few pictures of where to start.

I have changed oil and filters on many cars, but this little one seems different..

Here is a picture of the wonderful little machine....

Hello Anders,
welcome to the forum and congrats on the 500. Love the color (y)

For the oil filter, you can follow this guide which has pictures:
https://sites.google.com/site/cinquecentata/tecnica/pulire-il-centrifugatore-dell-olio
You will need to remove the rear crossmember to get to the housing, it's 4 bolts total to remove, and then the engine mount as well since it's connected.

For the oil change, I believe it's as simple as warming up the engine a little, removing the oil plug on the pan, letting the oil drain for 10-20 mins, refit the oil plug, and fill it up with oil from the top of the valve cover. 2.5lt of oil according to the manual.

Thanks...awesome. I found a very detailedvideo on utube.....seems doable.

Plugs, fuel filter, oil change, oil gasket ring......slight tune up.

Will report back....

If you do remove the rear cross-member to clean the oil filter/thrower, don't forget to support the engine so that as you remove the cross-member the engine doesn't drop down! So, do all your draining of the sump and refitting of the drain plug BEFORE you do anything else.
However, if you have nimble fingers, I assure you, you CAN remove the aluminium filter cover WITHOUT removing the cross-member. The aluminium cover will only fit in ONE position, so mark the cover before you remove it (tipex or a dab of paint). Once you have the filter cover off it is a simple job to remove all the gunge from it and clean it. Don't forget to remove the gunge from the pulley/oil-thrower CAREFULLY so as to get none of the gunge back in the engine. The gunge will look very rubbery as centrifugal force will pack it remarkably tightly---the only rubber in the filter assembly is the large 'O' seal that goes between the pulley and the filter cover---fit a new one.

I would reallty hate to take of the whole cross-member.

I will take a look at it....and hope I can get my fingers in there!
