Brought a doblo van fee weeks back - 2015 1.3 90 multijet very tidy and good condition full service history etc

Ran prefect since brought it

But now in mornings when it's cold it takes abit to start and coil (assuming glow plug light) flashes before going off doesn't come back on. But revs slightly go up and down (only just noticeable) for few mins then stops.

Then this morning whilst sat in slow moving traffic started blowing out grayish smoke cant smell coolant and hasn't moved, oil hasn't gone down but does smell slightly oily but also diesely

Gave it a good run home in a lower gear and it cleared and isn't smoking now

No oil leaks anywhere i can see

Only work im aware of that was done recently by old owner was a replacement egr valve and sump oil breather get the usually condensation from exhaust forst thing in morning but goes and doesn't return.

This morning was first time it's ever had th slightest bit of smoke etc and dpf light wasn't on, I did do a manual regen before left work and did seem clear it abit just wondered if any other reason, no loss of performance etc

Just wondering what should be looking for or need test first time with a diesel

Does sound a bit like trying to do a Regen.
Is your normal drive fairly short so not given engine a chance to do it's normal regen.
Ideally engine should get to normal temp in middle of gauge fairly quickly if thermostat doing it's job , then if you can run for 20 minutes or so at 2-3000 rpm it should clean it's self. It can help to use DPF additive in fuel when filling up.:)

Ya i did think that but worth no dpf light on i weren't sure, tbf my driving is abit of mixed but I do tend try keep under to save fuel altho probably doesn't help that it's got a speed limiter on it. I drive to work a good 20mins on an a road at 65ish mph traffic allowing but was stuck in traffic this morning and then probs 10min burst of contact speeds of 50mph n then stop start but weekend it was alot of slow moving stop start driving around town. Also to add it was stood for approx 5 weeks woth just the odd run before I brought it. And ya temperature gets up to normal temp as normal and doesn't move.

One of my daughters has a short drive to work with her VW Golf 1.6 , fingers crossed hers is better now after I fitted a new thermostat (sod of a job behind the alternator) and I got her a supply of DPF additive. But to clear her car in the first place I had to drive 30 odd miles in fourth gear.:)

Ya i did drive home mainly back lanes tho in 4th with odd bit of smoke and then. Nothing so hopefully that is the cause ill get some additive weekend when fill up again, just hope is that as other then that the van drives spot on but first diesel ive owned with a dpf so new to me
