General Number plates from Germany

Have you wacked yourself around the legs with both metal and plastic number plates? Suspect you'll prefer the plastic ;)

QUOTE VOSA "The Road Safety Act 2006 extended the Register of
Number Plate Suppliers scheme to Scotland and Northern Ireland
from 1 November 2008, in addition to England and Wales. From
this date it will be an offence to supply number plates that do not
comply with the law."

So.... plates made before 1st November in Scotland and N.I. did not have to comply with the regulation.

Does that mean the German-made metal plates will be OK for any car first registered before Nov 2008?

Thats interesting, i really do like them plates, they look classy but subtle and i think they would suit the stilo a treat.
If we could get a definitive answer on their legality i might be treating myself!
Someone on here must know a tame traffic cop who they can ask.

Your definative answer is in the regulations I posted above.

According to VOSA, all number plates used on UK registered vehicles can only be supplied by manufacturers registered on the "Register of Number Plate Suppliers"

"Supply" being the crucial word. In practice I suppose any car registered before Nov 2008 (in NI and Scotland) might be assumed to be wearing its original plates and it would be very difficult to prove otherwise.

Hmm. Your concern for pedestrian safety is laudable but if a car ran into someone would injuries really be attributable to a number plate?

Why don't we go around with just the bumper support bar showing then

Because at 15mph the bumper/plastic number plate will abzorb alot of the impact ;)

It is quite easily the difference between a pedestrian having broken legs in what is normally a relivity minor impact.

But don't let me provide reasons of why metal plates have been outlawed. Feel free to make them laudable and dismiss them (y)
