Hi all, I am new to this so might take me a minute to get to any reply’s you may have.
I’m having trouble starting my 1.2 8v punto grande. (57 plate. She’s been off the road for about 2 months while I’ve been fixing the front corner and recently completed the work. When I tried to start it, it struggled and I assumed it was a dead battery. I jumped it from a landy with help from a booster pack and she spluttered into life!! And then quickly squealed and smoked as the bottom timing cover rubbed on the crank gear. I turned her off and knocked the cover back into place and ever since it’s not been able to start. I’ve replaced the starter motor for a brand new one yesterday and also fully charged my battery today and it’s still nothing. It turns over but very slowly like it’s struggling. (I’ll see if I can add a video for detail) I’ve checked all earth points for the battery and there’s no corrosion, all fuses are intact and also cleaned the crank sensor. I can hear the fuel pump priming when ignition is on and checked all sensors are plugged in. Any idea why it won’t start? There’s no immobiliser light so can’t be that and after putting £350 into fixing her up I don’t want it to be for nothing. Any suggestions/tips or diagnoses will be appreciated.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to any reply’s!

I would take the cambelt cover off and check for damage/broken cambelt seized pulleys/guides etc, also check water pump and alternator turn freely.
Apart from that I would remove the spark plugs and turn engine by hand, if it turns over easily then maybe do a compression test.
When you say "fixing the front corner" was there damage near the cambelt cover area?
