Technical Noisey engine. 1.2 8v 2005 122k

Hi all I've got a 1.2 mk2b on an o5 plate that's got a weird noise from the engine. Not sure if it's failed water pump or something more drastic. Theres NO error codes displyed. Not hooked mes up yet but will in morning but as there isnt an eml light on im not sure itll throw any light on it. I've uploaded a video on you tube. Could you kind peeps take a look and any advice is much appreciated.

Take off the alternator belt and see what if anything changes.

I'll give it a go but my gut feeling is a failing cylinder as it sounds like it's coming from the block. I've got some spare alternators just in case

Soooo. Humble pie here.. changed the alternator and no more noise. Never heard one like it before. But a big thank you.

In fairness that didn't sound like alternator to me either. Standard procedure is eliminate the easy stuff first. I thought it was going to make no change in the noise and then send you in after the timing belt and water pump. Everyday is a schoolday if you keep your eyes and ears open and so forth..............
Just to be clear, did you remove the belt, run the motor and find no noise before changing out the alternator ?

It didn't sound like an alternator to me either, to be honest.

I think it would have been a good idea, as suggested, to remove the belt and run the engine.

Yeah I got car up to normal temp where noise was nearly constant then removed the belt. Ran it and no noise. Swapped out the alternator and still no noise
