General No more handbooks?

I think it is an age thing. The younger you are,the more you are happy with internet DVD handbooks, but us oldies prefer a handbook in paper form. I hope other car makers will still give paper hand books. Also i like to keep mine when i sell the car as a keep sake.

Why would you do that? (n) So the poor bastard after you has no handbook............... (n)(n)(n)(n)(n)

Big thumbs down to your post

At least Fiat still gives a Spare wheel and a temp dial on the dash, unlike more and more car makers these days who do not give a spare wheel and no temp dial, but a giant size fuel dial instead.
I have recently bought a Sat Nav and this only came with a start up leaflet that just shows pictures. You have to attach the unit to the PC to download the full guide, which i have done. However now when i turn my PC on,it goes straight to the Sat nav (Tom) page.Wish i knew how to stop that happening.

What's wrong with a few photographs and your memories. I pity anyone who in their excitement when buyings a car off you forgets to check they are getting the manual with it.

At least in this day and age, those who can operate their computer can probably go to the manufacturer's website and download the manual.

Many times in the past when i have bought a used car it did not come with a handbook. I simply purchased a handbook from the spares dept.
I always left the service book in the car when i sold it,which is more important. Im sure if people can spend thousands on a car, they can spend a few pounds on a handbook if they want one.
Anyway im taking my Bat in Now and im not playing out anymore so YAH BOO to all of you!!

You don't get it. You might look at that handbook once or twice more in your life, that person who's bought the car actually needs it.

Your last line basically shows your level of maturity. You get called out for doing something completely stupid and pretty inconsiderate and you thumb your nose at everyone rather than just seeing the sense in their words.

That last line was meant to be a joke.
As i said loads of used cars i have bought in the past did not have the hand book.I did not make a fuss,i just bought one from the spares dept.It was not a big deal to me.
I better not tell you about the seats, steering wheels, and switches i took off other cars before i sold them lol.
By the way that line was just a joke before you go wild again.
Subject is now closed, because i am being called in for my tea ha ha.

Obviously there will be many oaccasions when a manual is missing, by mistake. That is an entirely different situation from deliberately keeping it. Did you ever tell your buyers you had the manual but were not including it in the sale?

But keeping the handbook from the car is a pretty selfish thing to do is it not? Obviously they can get lost, or forgotten about, but you're talking about keeping it just because you want it as a keep sake, so why don't you buy one from the spares department as a keep sake, and allow the new owner to at least have a reference to their car's functions.

I think i forgot to say and did not make clear the most important point. That is i have never sold my cars to a Private person,i have always sold to the trade, either in a part ex. or a straight sale to a dealer.
Seeing as dealers make enough profit on a sale with a mark up of at least £1500 on every car, sometimes a lot more,i am sure they can spend a couple of pounds on a handbook for the new owner. Therefore a Private owner should not have a problem.
As i said, when i have bought a used car,the lack of a handbook was not important to me.I bought one if i wanted it,or the dealer got one for me. I did not think an off the cuff remark from me about paper manuals would create such a fuss with you guys. There are more important things in the world to think about, and for me this subject is now closed.

Interesting ethics you have there: "I do not consider it wrong to deliberately withhold an ancillary part of something I sell when I am selling to a business, even though I would not act in that way (and the behaviour would be morally wrong) were I to be entering into the same transaction with an individual."

By the same reasoning you would not burgle a house but you would steal from a shop.

The thing is the dealer/re-seller usually just say "well it didn't come to us with a handbook, what do you want us to do about it" (n) Often you don't find out it's missing from the sale until after you have paid and got the keys... Then it's "nothing to do with us".

I've never been discouraged from a sale due to a car not having it's handbook, but given you stated you like to keep the handbook for such a silly reason as wanting a keep sake, I think the comments you got were pretty just and warranted.

The subject might be closed for you, but I'm afraid the fact you brought the topic up in the public domain on a forum means it gets closed when people decide to stop responding to it. It's not really your choice.

End of story! FACT! :p
