General My Seicento is back on the road!

Manifold was cut apart and flow balanced between ports.

THanks for the link to the plenum. I have emailed artur about them.

If anyone is ever near gloucester and wants to have a play with the sei, let me know.

Rear Suspension. Modified arms and Avo coilovers off the cage
Gearbox. Home made short shift kit - GIves 60% reduction - I can make these if anyone wants one????? (Oh and an oil leak!!!!!)

Ride: Very stiff and corners without any roll. Rear wheel camber is 6.5degrees and get good grip when fast cornering. Allergic to speed bumps and potholes alike!

I like what you've done to the rear suspension, how much did you modify the rear arms though? Tweaked where the bottom of the shock absorber usually bolts to for a different angle or a bit more?

More info and pics of the short shift setup would be nice if possible :)

btw are you meant to have a seal around the rear glass?

Hi SPD,

Not really anything organised.

The cage is not build to MSA regs, so getting into race categories would be problematic.

I want it more for trackdays and the like. Thinking about entering the Castlecombe Special GT series next year with another car that i am working on, so the Sei seems like a good way of getting experience on the track.

RobW suggested i should drive it over to the Nurburgring with him in a couple of weeks, but i think that i would need a few replacement discs in my back by the time i got there, not to mention a couple of new ear drums.

Hope that clarifies! :)

Hi BlueDanGroup

I had to extend the rear arms by around 40mm. The avo coilovers have the same diameter mounts as the original shocks, so just extended it with a scalloped out bit of box section. I have also braced the sides of the mounts back to the arm to give a bit more strength and seam welded the edges of the arms to spread the load if required. Probably overkill but better than killing me.

The angle of the shocks is pretty close. I tried to get the shocks as vertical as possible. (This seemed like a logical thing to do - dont ask me why!) The mounts are a few degrees off, but the slack is taken up in the rubber mounts in the end of the coilovers.

I will try and get some pics of the shortshift setup. Everyone seemed to be worrying about moving the lever pivots and lifting the lever up in the air. I turned it on its head and played with the length of the levers on the gearbox itself. Its amazing what you can do with a hacksaw and a welder.

Come to think of it. That is what i'm going to scrawl on the back of my car!

Regarding the seal on rear window. The rear screen is bonded in and the seal is just cosmetic. I took it out ready to wrap the tailgate in green. Or would you prefer me to tell you i was trying to save weight??? :D

Ah, so not just a case of chopping a couple of holes in the boot and adding somewhere for the top of the struts to mount to then :)

This idea (fiddling with the levers on top of the gearbox rather than the stuff inside the car) was mentioned in another thread recently, dunno if they have made any progress on it though.

Would look better than "ɹǝʌo ʞɔɐq ǝɯ lloɹ ǝsɐǝld" :D

If that's saving weight than the holes where the lock barrels should be must be creating loads of drag ;)

Really though - will you be making some plexi windows? Seen as you've stripped the inside to save weight.

Thanks for the amusing replies!

Rear suspension: easier than it sounds. None of the angles are critical, just ensure that the left is the same as the right.

Gearbox LEvers: It is just a cut, overlap, than weld together job. It takes longer to take the top off the gearbox that it does to do the work. But i have a stupidly short shift and i can change gear much much quicker now. Probably saves half a second a shift. Or something near to this anyway. The other benefit is that you dont need to cut the lever down, so its nice and close to the steering wheel still (And your hands)

I will make sure that my little catchphrase appears very soon. Remember, you saw it here first!!!!!

My missing door locks are because i cant be bothered to put them back in!

I dont need them as i never leave it anywhere!

Oh yeah, actually, they are my fake bullet holes! Oh and it saves weight!!!!

If you are in Gloucester at any time, come and take it for a spin!

Perspex windows: I made a set for RobW a few years ago to go in a Cinq 899 to do the mongol rally. There was absolutely no weight saving whatsoever! And they are an arse to clean and scratch so easily.

I expected the glass to weigh more than that - you could do them anyway and say they add 5hp, like meccano spoilers and shopping lists (sparco, alpine, toyo etc written down the doors) do ;)

Ta for the offer, but I'm used to a Cinq Sporting with standard suspension so I'd probably end up writing yours off ;)
Also I'm in the top end of Staffordshire (nearly in Derbyshire) so a bit far to go really.

I think the shopping lists are more like wishlists

Nothing like stealing to order is there! :D

She is not that difficult to drive. She goes where you tell her to, goes like stink when you put your foot down and bends your ears forward when you hit the brakes.

gearbox and clutch is standard, so pretty easy to pull off.

Handfuls of earplugs in the car, definately necessary because of all the rattles and raod noise from having no interior whatsoever.

i think i'll pass on the recycled milk carton windows, if i'm going to spend a couple of hundred quid on something else, it will be to add real horsepower, not ego horsepower.

I must get a camera mount for the roll cage, so i can get some videos.

Hi J333

I like doing things differently.

Car not too much to look at, but goes very well indeed.

Just need to book some track days now!

Rear Suspension has worked better than i could have expected.

I looked at building turrets, but there was too little to mount them to. Building them in to the back of the cage made so much sense. The rear stays of the cage are welded through to the rear chassis arms, which are in turn mounted to the rear subframe.

Come and play!

Adam

Hey Adam,

If only it had been finished about 3 weeks ago when I stayed in Gloucester at the Thistle Hotel for a week as I was working at the airport I would have certainly had a look.

Sure the chace to see it will come at a Castle Combe track/action day, as often down for those as Jamie86 lives nearby, in fact he's at CC this Sat for an action day in his Clio 172, though we're not down as got cars to prepare for Trax on Sunday.

Aaron.

I am just doing all the signage and graphics for Ajec Racing who are sponsoring the Castle Combe Action Day.

I have to weld up their stand for the Press Area and print all the boards to go on it!

I will be up there friday night delivering the finished stands. Probably up there saturday too if the weather is good.

Dont think i will be taking the sei up yet and dont really see the point in driving all that way getting beaten up by ultra stiff avo suspension for a 15 minute session on the track!

Next time you are down this way, we will have to meet up for car comparisons and beer!

Getting Double Valve Springs ordered from Guy Croft.

Wondering about playing with cam pulley adjustment to try and get a bit more Horsepower and lose a bit of torque!

Bumpers being painted tomorrow. Might also finish wrapping the yellow panels. You never know!

Revving out at 6200 at the moment.

Want to up this to 8000 - 8500

WIll need to advance cam to get hp at higher rev range.

I have a vernier on there anyway. (No point putting a standard on on there)

Just want more Horsepower!!!!!!!!!!!!

adam

Painted the front Bumper last night.

Nope, the back isnt done yet, as i didnt have time!

I was up at castle combe today for the Ajec Racing Action Day.

We do a load of work for ajec racing.

I got asked to wrap some nice cars as well today.

It started with a Blue Pagani Zonda, then went on to a couple of 63 AMGs, a Phantom and then a Phantom Drophead that he wants matt black.

My staff are going to be busy for a while!

At least it pays the bills!!!!!

Pics tomorrow of the front of my car. Will be some clever ones, so you cant see the yellow bits! I might get the rest of the panels wrapped this week.

I have decided that i am going to paint the whole interior matt black. Looks cool!

Seicento is quicker than RobW's New 500 1.4

Matt bumpers look nice with the green (y)
Also makes it look a bit like a low spec version to the unknowing ;)

How's the dog with the poly bushes, less oversteer at high speed on laminate floors?
