I went out to clean the rabbits out this morning and one of them was carrying a huge amount of straw around in its mouth... It was still there an hour later...

Also has very poor absorbancy compared to shavings. Shavings are cheaper too :)
 
they have "litter" trays which have like wood shavings (special pet bedding stuff) in which they seem to use - a lot

the straw is just to keep them warm, and they have meadow hay to eat along with rabbit pellets, and fresh veg everyday.

Thinking about it, they're better off than me...
 
I think female rabbits carry straw in their mouths when they think they are pregnant. False pregnancies are frequent during the spring months especially in female rabbits.

Directly ingesting pine would probably be poisonous........................
