...was fighting with Fiat Grande Punto starter motors.

I'd previously got a starter motor off my spares/SORN GP and decided to put it on my other GP today. I was tightening everything up and the starter motor electrical contact screw broke off. So then I had to go to GSF to buy a new starter motor. This one had a much improved design and went on without any issues.

So i had to do this job 3 times...once to get the old starter off, once to put the old starter on before it broke and once to get a brand new starter on. What to say? Should I get rid of my spares GP and buy new parts instead? Taking parts off the spares GP seems a never ending problem of broken or ill fitting everything.

Anyway, still smiling. How was your car day? :)

You know how this goes... the second you you get rid of it, you'll be faced with a parts bill that would benefit from it.

Didn't you need to hand in your old starter for 'refurbishment' as part of getting the new one?

I had a similar experience on my old Panda - nothing came off without a fight.. but hey, it was the car where I learnt the most in the garage from and had the most fun working on.

If you've got the land and resources to keep your other GP spares car no harm keeping it, but think strategically about which parts you use before it becomes an expensive to move, lawn ornament that might cost to get removed when down to the body if lacking seats... wheels... steering etc
