Going on holiday with a fiat car means...

A trip to eurocarparts and scrabbling under the car :)

When did you fix your car on holiday?

I was lucky enough to never need to fix it when far from home / on holiday.

Although in 2016 a week before heading over to Liverpool and taking the Panda, the wiper motor decided to pack it in. Something in the switch / wiring as a manual bypass switched them on full speed.. so all of that holiday (just a few days) I had a makeshift wiper switch (like a volume knob) which was way too sensitive and awkward to control while driving. Managed to last until the day after getting home. Rainy day... could smell smoke (like someone's chimney nearby), went for the wipers, didn't work... that was it! Thankfully I got a used wiper motor from someone on the 100hp FB group at the time in Warrington (if I recall correctly)

We used to have a Punto MK2 and on that the wiper linkage failed. It was highly dangerous driving in the rain.

I was quoted a lot to replace the whole wiper unit but instead found a small metal clip that worked just fine.

I refused to pay for the clip so made my own repair out of some thick copper wire.

I can’t say I have ever had any problems taking a fiat on holiday, the only thing that comes close to that is driving to Yorkshire for Christmas in ?2008 or 2009 can’t remember exactly and the snow was so bad the wipers kept freezing and would not clear the screen so I tried to heat up some water on the exhaust manifold but in subzero temperatures and with it being the 1.3multijet diesel there was barely any heat under the bonnet. So we pulled into a McDonald’s and asked for some warm water but they wouldn’t give it too use as they thought I wanted it to defrost the glass and if I broke the windscreen they’d be to blame, eventually after the 50th time of explaining it was for the wipers and not the glass they gave it to me.

That was a fun journey of avoiding all the crashed cars of people who didn’t know how to drive in snow

I try not to drive in the snow but apart from the odd little skid I've not had much trouble on snow.

I seem to know the principle of snow driving, don't accelerate fast, brake suddenly, go quickly or turn quickly.

In Scandinavia I think it is compulsory to carry snow chains and/or use snow tyres in the winter

Today i've had no car luck. I gave myself a sore shoulder and in consequence ordered a longer breaker bar from Eurocarparts for collection on Monday. I don't need to go to the gym with all the rusty bolts on my old cars :)
