General Multipla remote locking/alarm dead!

Ever since changing the car battery the remote keys no longer work the remote locking/alarm. I can still unlock/lock manually and start the engine.
Naturally I'd like to avoid my local dealer and save a fortune for what I imagine is a simple job to re-educate the keys to work.
Any ideas?

Try disconnecting battery first for few minutes.

This happened to me. A "power reboot"* fixed it. I didn't do it, the garage did - it took seconds.

*I guess that they just disconnected the battery.

Fiat call it a 'system power down' ......known to you & I as disconnecting the battery Had this problem alot on the Ulysse & punto especially.
