Re: multijet 120 engine warning light.

Hi, all , I have a 120 multy jet swb van, there is a small yellow engine shaped light come on in the dash panel, the van drives well with what seams to be no problems, could any one tell me what this light is for ,before i take it to the garage.

Ref water on the engine yes it did, fiat said there was a modification out .on my van thay thay removed the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen and put a none silicone sealant behind it ,what a wast of time.
Take a look at the drivers side window wiper were the arm comes through the plastic when it is raining, it fills with water and submerges the wiper shaft, I driller a hole to let the water out.

Have you removed your spair wheel yet, If not give it a go, as when i needed my spair, the cable and gear box ,let it come down about 70mm and thats were it got locked. No UP AND NO DOWN,
Two men with an angel grinder ,and crow bars took one and a half Hrs to remove the spair wheel as i could then drive to fiat.

My van has only done 12000 mls in two years ,from new, there hase been several other things, rusty bolts in the bumper.two new washer jets due to frost damage, main fuse blown, fiat removed the starter as thay thaught it was that,

and to top it all thay charge £11.00 per day insurance to have a replacment van. ITS NOT MY FAULT -- NO ITS FIATS.
HOOTCHE.

Engine warning light, needs to get dealer to look at it.

What you list above are likely to be recalls. Do you use a Fiat dealer for services?

Common procedure i'm afraid. If you are a business you should have insurance for alternative transport if your main vehicle is off the road.

Hi Everybody

This is my first post so apologies if I am asking for info that is already out there eevn though I have had a good read through............

I have a 2007 Ducato 2.2 multijet swb. It has done very few miles (8500) but has just flashed up the warning light for ignition problems ( the light comes on when key inserted, but remains on once engine starts) and the engine is now slightly hesitant, has lost a lot of power and is blowing out more exhaust fumes. The van suffered until an hour ago with the water ingress problem which has been the subject of so many posts.

Can you tell me:

1) Have Fiat accepted the water leakage problem and provided a water tight solution?
2) If I ring my local fiat dealer who is over 1.5 hours away will they do this remedial work under warranty?
3) Is it safe to drive the van all the way to the dealer with the ignition problem?
4) Could the ignition problem be a simple DIY fix? I presume that there is a fair chance that the ignition problem is a direct result of the water leaking onto the engine.

As to the leak itself, I had a crack at it using clear silicone and with a little time and patience have cured it. The worst leak was where the two gutters meet in the middle; mine was such a poor fit that there was barely any overlap at all. The gap between the glass and the rubber was variable.

Have to say that as regards choice of sealants, I use a lot of various types in my work but nothing beats the simple clear silicon which I suspect you know, can even be used as an exhaust gasket compound.

Last point. Needed a set of Torx keys to undo the fixing for the gutter. If you dont possess any, Screwfix have them in their clearnce section at present. I got a set for £1.95 but even at their normal price of £3.99 they look good value.

Appreciate your views and ideas.

Re: WATER INGRESS - NEW FIAT/PEUGEOT etc

On 16th Oct, I went to the Fiat Stand at the NEC Caravan & Motorhome Show.

I spoke to Bob Robertson of Fiat UK.
He said Fiat had been deliberating on, & had now decided on, which mastic they intended to use to successfully tackle the water ingress problem. They were now in a position to commence working on vehicles whose owners had reported the problem to their dealer.
There had been no re-call because they had wanted time to find a satisfactory solution.
He said the following work would be done:-
  • 1) Spray the parts affected by rust with some type of water inhibitor.
  • 2) Put a cover over those parts.
  • 3) Enlarge the water drains in the rubber drain (scuttle).
  • 4) Use the mastic they had decided upon to seal the scuttle to the windscreen.
  • 5) Use the same mastic to seal the gap at the centre of the scuttle.
He said I should contact my local dealer to arrange to get the above work done.

I phoned Platts of Longton (01782 599600) today.
They said they were only authorised to do (1) above.

I then phone Fiat Customer Care (0080034280000)
Richard Swiatek told me :-
  • Platts were correct.
  • He said Fiat were still working on which mastic to use.
  • He said News Bulletins had been posted about the problem. I said I had received none. He said he would post copies to me.
  • He said that when the mastic was decided upon a recall would be made - in weeks rather than months.
Obviously these two Fiat representatives have been given conflicting information by their superiors to pass on to the customers.

A little information sent to every owner would have helped Fiat's diminishing reputation.
Hi
I had all these mods done ! it was no better ,infact worse the new engine cover funnelled the water into the drive belt area , When i was skiing in alps snow melting off roof ran under bonnet and turned to ice over all belts including timing belt. When i tried to start cambelt jumped 4 teeth and bent valves , had to have new head in Italy because everything was just rusted in.
I am in process of taking Fiat to court as of course they refused to help . Anybody heard of this happening to anybody else who may be able to help me,
Thanks Rihard

i have a 2007 maxi with 90k, engine is knackered, need injectors out, and they are full of water! now the bolts are siezed solid. cant even get the rocker cover off. what a great idea.

I think what he means it is because of water leaks the water finds its way on top of the engine and unless burnt off with engine heat it settles a round the injector screw treads and it reported when this occurs it very difficult to remove the injectors as the treads are seized up.
There is an engine cover available and some other remedies but it should not happen.
In this case a 90K motor its not been sitting around.
