While I, with help of forum members, am trying to solve the sluggishness issue the car (or better the driver) suffers from, I also took the time make an improvement to the car. Or at least a modification that I consider to be an improvement.

As I really hate a rocking engine as a result of load changes I have filled the voids in both the upper left upper (standing in front of the car) and the lower engine mount / torque rod. I have done using some high density rubber.

With my previous car, a Volvo V70, I have done the same causing the car to feel more responsive and it also improved the quality of gear shifts. With that car it took me quite some time to find out the optimal spec because of the vibrations that were transmitted to the body through the engine mounts.
With the Panda I don't have this issue probably because the engine produces much less vibrations then the 5 cylinder engine of the Volvo.

Next thing to consider is to stiffen up the engine/torque mounts to make it even more response without transmitting too much vibration to the body of the car.

I really like to hear of others having done the same or other modifications in this area.

Hello,

I'd say it's the opposite. The smaller number of cyliders the vibrations will be bigger. However good luck with your modification!
I don't know if it is that simple. It has also to do with firing order etc. And of course with the mass in motion.
Anyway, the Volvo 5 cylinder engine really suffers from vibrations.

An inline six should have perfect primary balance. Inline four has a rocking motion at double the crank revs caused by pistons covering the top half of the stroke at a different speed from the bottom half. A five has some of the latter and an uneven firing rate.

I have a Multijet but have no problems with the engine mounts. The gearbox "dog bone" is new but looks no different to the one I took out.

The engine and gearbox mounts will sag over time. New mounts will solve any issues, but saying that, Mrs Dave's 2007 1.2/60 is perfectly smooth with all original mounts all around.
