Technical M32 Gearbox whine

Hey

Im booked in at Halifax gearbox and clutch centre on Saturday (only 5 miles away from me)

the M32 in my GPA is whining in 5th and 6th and also the gearstick jumps in 1st. I spoke to them and they seem very knowledgeable and sounds like they do a lot of repairs on these gearboxes. also they have quoted me the same price all in £480.

Ill post up the results when all is done. wish me luck.

I still cant believe how smooth my gear changes are now, and I only had a whining noise before.

So i see they didn't remove the gearbox, the just took off the coper and pulled out the shafts?

Also did they replace the syncros? (if they didn't remove the gears from the shafts they didn't). The improved shifts can be due to better adjustment of the gear cables (I messed around with mine and it improved the feel)

Do you know the specs of the oil they pun in the box?

Yes they don't remove the box to save on labour costs, the shafts are removed and inspected/cleaned then rebuilt with new bearings. If anything is damaged they would ask you and then replace.

My improved gear shifting is down to the new bearings removing any play in the shafts.

If you have any questions then just ask on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HalifaxGearboxes?fref=ts

My gearbox doesn't whine.

However it has a faint rattle when it's in neutral with the clutch pedal depressed. This is only after a long drive (more than 2 hours).
The gear changes from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd are a bit choppy at low RPM's. Especially when the engine/gearbox is cold.

Should i worry? Do you guys recommend an oil change for the gearbox?

So 3 months after my gearbox repair, this happened:

Halifax gearbox & clutch were not helpful on the phone when I spoke to them, apparently the warranty they supply only covers the bearings and nothing else. So if the damage was caused by anything else I would have to pay them more money, which I did not want to do due to their unhelpful attitude. The saying "buy cheap pay twice" springs to mind.

So decided to get it repaired properly at my local garage who I really trust but knew this would be expensive as they send all gearbox repairs to a specialist, but means the entire gearbox will have a 12 month/40k warranty. And as the gearbox is off makes sense to replace the clutch/DMF/Slave cylinder.

Still waiting to get my car back, but have been told that 2nd gear lost a tooth which is what made the hole in the casing. I really hope this is the last of my gearbox problems!
