General Look who's come home...

Well new gearbox, clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing fitted - just got back from a quick test run and i can report i now have a cinq that drives again & doesn't have a noisy as hell input shaft bearing or a slippy clutch (y)
There is still a noise that was probably there before but you didn't notice it over the grindy box noise  99.9% it will be alternator bearings but it is dark so just left it for today.

yes yes yes, i know these things james. They actually involve undoing things, i will try my wd trick first - it does not solve anything granted but will tell me if it is that or not, in which case i will clearly get some spanners out and take the alternator off and get replacement etc etc. If I do it your way i will have to put it back on incase i need the car before the alfa comes back and i'm not one for spending time and effort if i don't have to.

that sounds like far to much effort, next time i drive it in daylight i will just spray a bit of wd40 at the alternator while its running - it will change the noise or make it go away momentarily if its the alternator. ;)

Hahaha this actually made me laugh I have that half assed approach witht the red turd lol the alternator has been noisey for a few months now lol.. just point a can of wd40 in that general direction when it gets annoying lmao

right, not driven my alfa in 2 weeks now - been driving betty daily - covered several hundred miles now and everything is good, running fine, new gearbox doesn't make any nasty noises, no slippy clutch.

The whole exhaust bar the apparently invincible janspeed rear box is a bit rough looking now and the middle box has started rattling at 3k rpm but replacements are organised, just need to find the time to get it changed over.

And todays little mod is made the clock red to match the buttons which i changed to red last time i owned the car. Just need a couple more leds for the bits above to sliders and the actual instrument cluster as part of that has stopped lighting up.
