We have a pair of 2.0TD ZR's at work for £8,999 brand new unregistered. they are absolute minters. When PDIing them, we have had no problem for parts. Another manufacturer (can't remember who now) is making parts for them. At the end of the day the Rover Parts market is there and somebody will fill it. I think it is the RAC who are offering warranties for them too and at our garage, we put warranties on them too.

My twin "Ghirl" (on this forum) has got a mg ZR (or whatever there called) and she loves it... She goes on a mg forum but dont know what its called but sure if you pm her she tell you what its called!(y)

Nowt much wrong with Rovers - I drove one for a year (y)

Don't damage it because Rover parts are mostly waiting list stuff.

best place for parts is Rimmer bros in lincoln. they have parts for every rover/mg/landy/range/anything else rover related ever made. literally everything. they did a deal with rover before they went bust and bought out most of the spares. Rimmer's is where most rover garages get their stock from now!!!!

I had a brand new one of these a year and a half ago, biggest regret of my life buying it, i swear something fell off or broke every day:rolleyes:

They look nice and now they are cheap as chips there ok but id never go back to a rover:yuck:

Sold my 899 sei for it and wanted it back within the month:yum:

Rimmer Bros also do some fairly tasty work for Rover V8s :)

Hope you're happy with it, good luck.

I've driven one, 52 reg. Thought the brakes were ok, and, well, that's about as much as I could credit it with. The gearbox was unneccesarily stiff, steering felt really dead, dash is just plain 90's nasty, quality of the fittings and switchgear are truly terrible. For 104 bhp it's not quick, either.

This one even came with what looked like a jam jar lid attached to each front door card. There were two emergency window winding handles in the glovebox, which attach to the knobbly bit under these jam jar lids.

Who the hell supplies stuff like that? It's like saying "We know it's going to break, so here's some bits to get you by".

My twin brother has a Rover 200is, it's an absolute stunner...as with any car, they all have their own problems, in particular HG failure is common on the K Series, but just remember where these engines are used elsewhere! The K Series engine is a particularly solid engine, and personally will outlast any fire engine IMO. My brothers 200, is a 1.4 16v with the higher BHP of 105psi, he has recently added a vernier (sp) cam to the engine and a bigger throttle body. The amount of torque for a 1.4 will give many higher performance cars a really good run for its money. Talking of the lovely retro plastic wooden inserts on the dash and on the heating controls, he soon realised that a flat cap and driving gloves wasn't his ideal fashion, so he swapped these for the MG ZR carbon look inserts, and it really does make the inside look far more modern. The engine is just under the 90k mark, but its absolute perfection. I will have to say that it's now running better than when it was new. Yes he's had his usual HG failure, but if well look after; these cars do last and will keep putting a smile on my face every time I'm out in it. Just for the record, parts for these cars are as popular as ever, the company; X Part have taken on the parts for Rovers, and a slight decrease in price has also happened which isn't a bad thing in anyone's eyes for genuine parts.

As some of you might know, I've been a proud owner of a cinq sporting now for nearly 4 years, so I think this is a clear and fair comparison on my behalf.

hi mate, like your Mg, im a big fan of rovers, thats the 1.4 engine you have

cracking engine the K, probably the best their will ever be, parts are still avaliable from most dealers and rover, well, ex dealers, and x power too the best forum for rovers is www.mg-rover.org as mentioned above.

Just respect the engine, what i mean is to service it every 6,000, the manufactuers state 12k but it will last for a long time if treated nicely :)

The k loves 10w40 magantec, do not be tempted to put that slick50 in the engine, its a slow death for them.

In terms of tuning, the k is one of the most tunable engines around, dont be tempted to put a filter on the end of the throttle body, this serves NO purpose as not only do you get heat soak, it can also be related to the pulses of how the air travels through the engine and bouncing off the vlaves, cancelling the postive pulses, just go for a replacment panel filter as cheap open filters do nada for the K as the airbox's are pretty much set up well.

Ditch those crappy solid brakes, go for the mgzr160 setup, a cracking up grade for the 1.4, straight bolt on, just buy new discs and pads.

Problem areas:

Leaky camshaft cover gasket - £8 from a motor factors, 5 min job

Rust from boot hinges - go out NOW and put copper grease or vaseline on them and leave it, they may well rust

Headgasket probs - check coolant every week, any noticable drop must be investigated, any signs of the coolant gauge moving up just above the half way mark, STOP as soon as, turn the engine off

After a taxing drive, let the engine cool! its not a fiat where the fan comes on, leave it to idle for 3 mins before shutdown

Dont worry about tappet noise from a cold start, this should stop after 3-5 seconds (worse case really) of start up, any longer usually indicates that the oil and filter *may* need changing

The k loves to be revved, 103ps from a 1.4nasp, thats saying something aint it? bugger all weight, watch the old girl fly in second gear waving goodbye to n0bs driving up your bumper hahaha

K man.

....so, how much you spend on it?!

Also, how much is the insurance gonna set you back? Christ wish I were 17 and had a car like that! Then again, it's not a yellow Sei, so it's not in the same league :D
