Hi,

Occcassion the key code immobiliser system seems to be a little temperemental.

After inserting the key, sometimes this light does not go out, hence the car cannot be started. The only way I have found around this was to reinsert the key several times until it goes it. Having tried all my other keys which are new (including red).

This seems to happen on random occasions - sometimes everytime I come to start the car and then not for a month or two. Did at one point, think it was whenever the key got damp, but I no longer think this is the case.

Anybody experienced this? and found a permanent fix?

Car: Fiat Punto 60S 97P.

Cheers

Steve

Remove the steering cowls and check the connections on the key code antenna. It's a little round aerial situated around the ignition switch with a wire coming off it, make sure all the connections are tight on that to start with.

You may need a new aerial and/or code ecu to solve the problem if it persists.

regards,
Paul

My friend had the same problem on his brava, is is useually caused my the little black box, behind the steering colum, that reads the trsnsponer from the key, it then sends a message to the ECU telling it that the key is correct and that it is ok to start the car. the fault is that the reader is woren out. (they are abut £60 to replace)

I had my punto for 3 years now, will probably just check connections. As it sometimes months between occurences - think I might just leave it as is for now, if the connections seem ok.

Thanks for all the advice.
