Hello, I have just purchased my first Fiat (Fiat 500 1.2 Petrol) and just wondering is there anything wondering if theres anything i need to do, its my first car so anything i can do to make it easier on the car or me, please let me know, i am new to this so anythings helpful! thanks!

I'd say check out this part of the forum, just for your model of 500. All sorts of issues, knowledge and goings on that will all be relevant to your car. Your 1.2 engine is a nearly 30 year old design, known for being fairly bullet proof with minimal servicing or fuss - it's one worth maintaining, if you look after it, it will look after you.

Which year, colour and spec did you go for? High mileage or low?

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate that a lot! Is is a 59 plate (2010) black 1.2 pop. It has a upgraded Apple play head unit and it’s a fair decent mileage with 122,000 and only ever failed I believe 2 MOTs in its life, started life in Scotland and somehow ended up with me lol. Surprising little nippy thing and I’m quite happy with it

Scotland…. How is the underside of the car? Ie rust!?
Is the rear beam in good shape!?
We absolutely love our 500s however owning one can also be challenging… sometimes 😂
If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in with repairs …. 👌

Shocking decently clean, the exhaust is a lil rusty but still works and doesn’t blow etc. when I had it up on some jacks to have a look i was quite shocked because my mates Astra is from Scotland and its rusted heavily. I’m not sure when or how it got down to where I live but no mention of rust or anything on any of the MOTs aside from the exhaust.

Well if it’s not been done already a good under seal spray will really help
Personally I use waxoyl once a year usually spring … on the beam and all the brackets exc….
Wheel arch liners out …. The dirt build up behind is unbelievable especially behind the wings!!
The rear liners are a bich to get out tho!

But that’s only if your a nutter … like me 😂

59 plate same as ours also from Scotland
There's quite a list of things
Rear hatch wiring issues
Engine earth lead
All of the front suspension
Rear beam rusting
Age related rusting like brake pipes
Engine, thermostat, breather hoses, metal coolant pipe behind exhaust manifold, "duck bills" drain water from under windscreen blocked?
Do the day running lights work, probably not?

Will keep all the stuff mentioned, and yeah the day time running lights work perfect. Like I said in another reply when I looked it all looked pretty decent only rust on the exhaust but no blowing etc
