I just got my gp back from arnold clark after i got a service and m.o.t, it failed the m.o.t cause of two front tyres, so i just told them to go ahead and change them. When i got it back, the left front alloy had big chips out the alloy, they were about 2inc's big. so i told the guy at the desk and he looked at it then went to get the service manager. he came over and looked at it and said it was deterioration, omg. lol. i told him i expect the car to be in the same condition as it was when i drop'd it off. but to cut this story a bit shorter, he walked away while i was talking to him, after a couple of swear words from me cause of the lack of explination about how it can diteriorate in just 1 day. i told him i want the reason for my alloys condition put in writing. and i'm going for a second opinion from another garage and i'm phoning fiat to ask about the quality of there alloys and if they would deteriorate cause he said all my alloys will go like that and for them too tell me that this guy is talking mince !!!!!!!!

this was at the fiat and alfa garage in springburn, the service manager with the bad attitude was called Bobby gahoolie. (n)

believe me he came close to getting punted 10 foot in the air.

I would have kicked him right in the gahoolies!

never mind kickin drop the alloy on his gahoolies

good luck wi gettin it sorted.

I took mine to Arnold Clark at Gorgie Edinburgh for its first service an while it was in i asked if they could look at cigarette lighter as it wasnt working ( I use for phone charger, sat nav etc) obvious first guess would be fuse, also obvious was the gouge marks in my centre console where the tech attacked it to get actual lighter unit out...put me right off goin back unless its something i can just buy the part and do it myself

oh man that's harsh, did he give you the explaination in writing? Some of the tales of woe I've read on here makes me fearful of ever letting a fiat dealer look at my grande punto. A garage near to my girlfriends in retford is really good, my gf used to take her VW Polo and her dad takes his Touareg to get serviced there slot cheaper than gilders he says, and with it being in a little village the work is good quality because they rely on word of mouth... I sound like an advert...

Hope you get the problem sorted.

I always take photos of my car just before dropping it off. Also make a note of the mileage having hear stories of cars being driven all over the town. Doesn't stop it happening but it gives much more leverage if something does go wrong.

I'm always amazed how when you collect a courtesy car they go round marking down all the scratches in minute detail yet if they damage your car they too often play the customer as a fool.

It does not suprise me as many dealers have old equipment for tyre changing.

Keep pursuing them, through Fiat and if necessary small claims court etc.

It is a good tip to always take the service manager round the car and note any marks/damage when you drop the car off.

Hope you get it sorted

Why is this in Grande Punto section? should be in 'garages';)

anyway...unlikely any garage (or business of any type) would admit to any damage. What will happen here is the service manager would now have to hide the cost of repair(s) in his books...normally done by reducing a tech(s) bonus.

Thousends of cars go into garages everyday, law of probability will state there will be a few ..... whats the word, mistakes/f*ck ups?

Not consulation to poor DeanO I realise.

Should be marked on vehicle condition sheet.

Nothing to do (directly) with Fiat:confused:

Its got me puzzled what were your tyres like? if your rubber was below 1.6mm surely you will have seen it (or are you the type who jumps in and drives it till it goes bang?) reason for asking and not wanting to look like know it all clever SOB sounding like a clever (c)unt i had my cars 2nd service and they tried to stiff me for 2 new front tyres,

(walked into the workshop went to my car (up about 3 ft on the 4 poster) pooped the boot took out my Tread depth gauge guess what 2.something mm at the lowest point.....

Guess what im getting mine MOT'd at an Independent

pharaoh goes to the job centre, only vacancies are;

1) Builder required, needed for new pyramid, 23 hour day, bowl of grain and thimble of water, 25 year contract, free burial upon completion.

2) Arnold clark technician wanted, good rate of pay, bonus scheme.

pharaoh goes to desk and asks for application form for the builders job,

"are you sure says the desk clerk"?

"fu*k aye says the pharaoh, aint nobody gonna treat me like sh*t"

:)

alright deano.
this is the garage i deal with, infact my car was in for brake pads and discs the other day. I usually deal with a guy called john on the service desk. but he wasnt there, so it was that guy u dealt with, he seemed ok with me, but ur right go and kick up **** about it. No way they should deterioate in one day. Obviously they have kerbed them or done it with the machine whilst takin the tyres off .. there ****ing wanks!!

I think those mechanics in there dont have a clue, they told me i needed 2 new tyres on the front, and it was actually the back that were needing done, the front ones still had a few thousand miles to go.

good luck!

I've had my tyres increase in tread between visits! (and yes they were the same tyres). 4mm on one visit and then 5000 miles later measured by the garage at 5mm. I don't think AC techs are given enough time to do the job properly. Much like most other companies - it all boils down to money despite the customer service gloss they try and put on.

You cant base a whole workshop on one individual...maybe it wasn't a tech but reception type person who decided you needed tyres. From memory (would need to check unless someone else can confirm) but 3-4mm tyre tread in Arnold Clarks eyes is a advisory....in mine its half worn!

Sounds spot on to me(y)
