Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:
Talon. My Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
well heres the pictures you can see the bolt holes dont line up. the new clutch plate fits on the gearbox shaft so i think drilling the bolt holes out will work.
i aint spending money where i dont need to.

they literally told me "nothing on the clutch its self mean anything" cos i was quoting numbers on it. well the one number it had.
they told be to take it down and they would keep ordering in clutches till they found one that matched. however, for each one they had to order in they would charge me.

the clutch i have (NCK 126) from them would be £69.99 with vat. adding "ordering in charges" is a bit of a **** take so im like.. ill mod the one i have to fit..

i think i could do it. if you look at the pictures you can see the differences. ill have to grind some things off the clutch plate then drill some holes in the bit that bolts onto the flywheel but its totally doable.
heh im sorry but i aint paying out any more i just cant, i dont have the cash. least not untill i sell my cinq. funny enough i have found a thrust bearing the same as the one that came off the car in the shed, ok its a 2nd hand part but at least its not gritty and rough like the one i pulled of this!

nothin like doing what you can with the things you've got to get by.

the thing thats annoying me is:
i bought a cam belt, quoting the reg number for the car. it was the wrong belt. i bought a aux drive belt.. again quoting the reg number.. it was the wrong belt. now i bought a clutch.. ok off ebay but from a place that sells parts.. again quoting my reg plate.. and guess what.. wrong clutch. im thinking this car.. it made up of other cars :/

John,

I just tried looking for a clutch using your Reg. No. on Euro car Parts web sight and it didn't work, the info held for your car was insufficient.

I tried again using the reg. from one of my old 4x4's and there was no problem. When you order any parts in the future give them my reg. instead. G223 MYC.

I wouldn't try to adapt the clutch you have, it's very easy to make it imbalanced so you could end up with a rough feeling engine.

@aquamarine Thanks man! i am eagerly waiting for it! this is the last piece of the puzzle i need to get sorted. soon as its together it will be MOT time!

@VmanC i have used a mates lathe to cut/grind down bits of the clutch. i am happy it will be fine and on the lathe it seems balanced well. even at insane RPMs time will tell mate!

right guys and girls, as i am close to getting my little panda on the road i want to get all the bits together if any of you guys have them.

· Complete lock set with matching filler cap. so thats both door locks, the boot, the ignition barrel, and the filler cap. (quite vital now)
· Clock
· Boot rubber seal (mine is split causing the boot lip to rust)
· Drivers door rubber seal (mines split)
· Small wing bonnet rest (rubber thing that sits on top of the wing)
· Plastics that go around the door to hold the carpet in place. not the sill cover ones, the ones near the pedals (both sides)
· 4x4 parcel shelf (or one that would match my trim)
· Front wiper arm

i have a wanted ad >>Here<< with the same list of parts that i need.

if anyone has a panda they are chopping up for parts, i want parts. i would rather deal with people on the forum than say over ebay any day!

help me out here guys, i am close... so close..

You will be very very lucky to get a lock SET. The one key panda is a rare thing. Most people have at least two keys or three. Some have four. Aim for boot and doors on one key, ign on one and fuel on one. That way you will prob get a an offer.

I think all pandas had two keys (except maybe the later ones with the flap). Fuel cap is a totally different type of key compared to doors/ignition.
What's the problem with the locks currently fitted anyway? I personally would not bother, or certainly not a priority, if they are working correctly.

Its strange, pre injection were all suppose to have a seperate key for the doors to ignition or something iirc (in the hand book), my Sisley did, but my 750L and all the Selecta's have had one key for all except the filler cap.

yesterday was a good day, not only did i get a lock set but the gearbox arrived!

heres a video of me removing the old box from the car:

and heres a few talky videos of the new box.. hehe it was a bit dirty but i jet washed it and it seems good..

and a demo showing all the gears working

thanks again @aquamarine

Hey that's good news, glad it arrived OK John! David

its in the car now! took me till half two in the morning but its in the car and filled with oil! left a bit of cardboard under the gearbox to see if i get any troll leakage from the CV boots but i think it will be good.

video of it:

ill leave my netbook uploading the video over night so should be done in a few hours time.

@nitro_warrior you want my old diff? its in remarkable condition.. not a chip on it, i am quite shocked.

as for me. bed time!
