Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:
Talon. My Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
^ bah you know what i mean. besides i painted the rear axle :p

update on the bits i need:

Filler pipe locking ring << item number 10
complete lock set with matching filler cap
Front wiper arm
speedo cable
clock
boot rubber
timing belt cover
air box
small wing bonnet rest
plastics that go around the door to hold the carpet in place. not the sill cover ones, the ones near the door hinges (both sides)

anyone bringing something like this with them to stanford hall?.. i will buy the bits from you if you dont go stupid on the prices.

i have a speedo cable for a 903cc.. if anyone is after one

gonna cover it with underseal mate. swilled the tank again with what was left of the tank seal. so its had 2 coats of the stuff. loads of protection from rust!

well today i have changed the rear brake lines on the panda.
also re-wired the two rear number plate lights so now i have fully working electronics.. bar the radio.. ive not fitted that yet. not going to till i get a full lock set

As you all love my pit, i did a video of me draining the water out of it:p:p:

any way, i found out what was wrong with the carb, it was full of iron oxide sludge! it blocked the accelerate jet and pump!
heres a video if me cleaning it out:

(the rough running was caused by water, the other videos the engine is running fine now  )

the tank is back on the car now! fixed my old one up. took a long time but it is now on.

running the engine for a while ive found a strange noise occurred. its like a graty kinda grindy noise. i made a video of it , thankfully my fire engine is quite silent so you can hear it well in the video.
you'll laugh when i jump, i know the cooling system is working now! LoL:

That "sludge" is what goes into unleaded petrol these days to replace the lead (well at least I think that's what its for). Anyway if you leave a car sitting for any length of time that's quite a normal outcome. The fuel evaporates off and leaves that sludge behind. Glad you got it sorted. (y)

total disaster.

the gearbox is totaly f00xed. nothing i can do will save it. the outer shell is cracked and split. takeing the enf of the gearbox off i found it filled half wit metalic sludge.. the gears missing teeth the sincro totaly stripped on 5th and the rest of the gears peppered in chips.

lol gearbox anyone?

i think the time has come to cut my losses and sell the car. 4x4 gearboxes are rare. very rare and with my luck i will never find one. not in good nick.

other option is to buy another 4x4 but my mum and dad have told me No.

end game im afrade.

You could always find a 2wd box and run it in 2wd whilst you wait for a 4wd box to appear. Probably got quite a few 2wd options.

Now, not wanting to be too much of a vulture but could I bagsy the differential gears and associated bits from your broken box?

Exactly what I was going to suggest, should be fairly easy to find a good 2WD box and you rarely need to use the 4WD anyway, unless you're planning on doing some off roading or we have a freak snow storm (probably quite likely at the moment:p)

thanks guys. ive just bought on off aquamarine. its been stood for a while, but i have all the proper gearbox oil so it should coax it back into running spec.

so.. crisis averted.

tomorrow i will fit the new clutch and make ready for the replacement gearbox.
hope it turns out to be a good box!

Edit, thanks GrandeGuy. lol

yeah i wish. well today. wrong clutch! wtf?! said it was for a 4x4 999cc fire engine but nope does not match up. so bang ive got to pay another £60

i get no luck. if its gonna cost money its gonna cost money. no way of getting anything useful for nothing.

they life gets worse as you get older??!! really?! if it does.. wow already i have no money and no job so really it can get worse? meh just waiting for the docs to say i have some bad medical problem.

i really am getting sick of this.

well i have just got off the phone to my local auto factors. and apparently "NCK 126" (the clutch i have) is the part that fits my car... NOPE! i have that cluch and guess what.. it does not fit!

ahhh balls. looks like im gonna have to keep buying fiat clutch kits till i find one that fits.

i'd just use the old one, but when i took it off it fell on the floor and smashed a massive piece of the asbestos pad off.. not only that but where the thrust bearing meets the fingers thingys its about warn them through!

**** my life.
