Hi All,

I'm not the most tech-savvy, but I am a have-a-go Henry and my latest endeavour, was to try to upgrade the radio on my 63 plate Panda. I removed the radio and wired in my new one. Then switched on the engine, only to be inundated with airbag errors and a lacking petrol gauge indicator.

Panicking, I disconnected the black wire from the back of the radio and switched the engine back on and the car was normal again, but obviously without the radio working.

I have checked the fuses and all appear correct. Have I missed something?

Any help would be gratefully welcomed and received.

53 : 2003

Sixty Three ..63 late 2013

Normally car wiring is to a standard.. with connector blocks carrying

1 for power..and another for spekers..hands free etc

It sounds like you are not using an adaptor cable harness..?

Hi There. I have a 63 plate 4x4 (TA) and had a few issues with the Blue & Me (B&M) module. When looking for the B&M unit (which is under the drivers seat in RHD models) I discovered another module next to the glove box under the dash - described as the "Radio Module" I'm guessing the original radio is programmed via the body control module and the radio module so the body control module needs to know you have a different radio?? So the CanBus equilibrium is upset and reporting all these errors? Just my guess you understand.

You know, I think the moral here is stick with the original radio (which isn't that bad really).

Like most cars these days, the radio is more than just a removable box in the dash, but now interconnected with various other parts scattered around the car. For the older Blue&ME radio, the dash unit was really just a display and CD housing, with some of the 'works' of the radio elsewhere behind the dash and the Bluetooth control module under the seats. The later uConnect radio sees more of the electronics being in the main dash unit, but still it relies on other parts (eg body computer) for full function.

I should have added: some of the info from the body computer is used to automatically raise the radio volume as you drive faster. It also provides the auto-off function, either as you turn the key off or after 20 minutes, depending on your preference set in the menu. The auto-dimming of the radio display and connection with the steering wheel controls likely also via that. Fitting a non original radio/media player may lose some of these functions, especially the speed-related volume.
