Hello all. Newbie here.

Had to have the AA out to my 2006 Grande Punto 1.9 multijet today. Ran fine yesterday then today wouldn't start. AA came out, jump started it and thought it was battery as only read 5 volts before it was jumped. Gave it a 20 min run out once it was started but after sitting in Dad's for an hour, it wouldn't start again, this time couldn't be jumped either. The little amber car/padlock light was on the whole journey.

AA came out again, played about with it a bit, got it started and followed me home. Played about with it again before leaving. Result is he's certain it's an immobiliser fault. I've attached the email they sent me.

Do those codes mean anything to anyone? Have visions of this costing me a small fortune and wondering if it's worth it :(

Update to this: I left the battery disconnected over night and when I’ve reconnected this morning it started straight away. The immobiliser light went out but the engine light was on along with power steering light. I’ve just moved the car and the steering light was out but engine light remained on. Is this a bad earth connection?

Welcome to the forum :)

The problem here is that the AA will only have a generic code reader, which likely can't read the Fiat specific codes.

Based on symptoms though, I'd suggest either a dead/dieing battery, failing alternator, or poor earth connection somewhere.

The aa guy asked about alternator but that was replaced less than 2 year ago.

One can't really tell without testing the electric circuits !

As Eklipze says it looks like grounding/battery/alternator issue;

- grounding: earth cable goes bad internally
- battery: they ALL have a life time
- alternator: the right hand driven GPs have a problem with water coming from windshield

Just an update:

The immobiliser light hasn't been on since i had the AA out.

I've been leaving the battery disconnected when i'm not using it and when i go to use it, i connect it back up and it starts straight away.

If i don't do the above, occasionally it doesn't start until i've disconnected then reconnected straight away, then it starts.

A couple of new warnings on dash, one says check LHS lights, one says check brake lights, one says check glow plugs. The RNS indicator was playing up, so i took the unit out and checked all bulbs, all fine none broken but replaced the bottom bulb as there was a bit of green gunk around it. Since i replaced it the warnings haven't been on.

Also, bit of a weird one was the other day coming home all of a sudden the horn sounded and wouldn't go out. Had to remove that fuse. Haven't tried to replace it since.

All things seem to point to a bad earth but it's getting the time to get it to someone to find out.

I'm currently having the same issues Any info would be greatly appreciated
