Thanks in advance for looking at this
I'm new to the forum only having just bought this vehicle.
I have an old fiat ducato diesel 2.5tdi on an R reg
Issue I have is whilst driving it just cut out ,it stuttered just before and then all the lights went off and it was dead.
I managed to get it going long enough to get on the drive but then it went off again
I changed the battery but still nothing
Then after a week sitting there it now comes on no problem but the key code light is now on (Possible because I changed the battery ) .Worry I have is if it happens whilst on the road
Any ideas much appreciated.

This seems to be an electrical rather than an ignition issue.

The 2.5tdi could struggle if you got air or water into the fuel lines, but otherwise a supply failure to the immobiliser would release the diesel stop solenoid in the injection pump, and prevent injection (same effect as turning off the ignition).

I suggest checking all main battery connections for security and corrosion. Also check earth connections, particularly the main battery earth which if yours is an x230 model will be under the front end of the battery. Connections should be clean and tight. I always suggest a smear of vaseline or similar, to exclude moisture.

All the lights going out suggests that your problem lies in the supply to the ignition switch, or in the switch itself, but you should also consider the possibility a problem with fuses, or their connections.

Unfortunately if your code light does not go out, the "stop" solenoid will not operate, and there will be no fuel injected. If a cure is not found, the immobiliser can be removed, but this has security, and hence insurance implications.
