It's all been a bit of a whirlwind but I bought a Fiat 500 today!

I hadn't actually planned to get a car necessarily but did want to do a bit of looking around.

As you might know from my other thread I'd originally set out with a budget of approx £8,000 and wanted a Pop with at least some alloy wheels and maybe some options but not too fussed. Ideally no more than a year or two old.

I checked stock at the Fiat dealership in Nuneaton and they had the same set of cars in.. I then saw that Mazda Leamington had some basic spec Fiat 500 Pop's in stock that were exceptionally cheap - massively undercutting all other used Pops out there. So I decided to down and have a look around.

Talked to the dealer and it turns out they were a job lot of ex-lease cars almost all had done less than a few thousand miles. They said the phones had been ringing off the hook and they had people coming from fairly far away to view these and I was fairly sure they were not lying (one sold just after I started looking around and they'd already sold another one that morning..)

I saw one I quite liked - registered February 2011, had done 504 miles, but was basic spec - priced at £7,799.. I looked around it and as you'd expect it was immaculate. Took it for a short test drive (they were keen to keep the miles off it understandably) and it was really nice. As I sat in the dealership virtually at the point of shaking the salesman's hand he comes over and says "I'm sorry to say this, but the car you just test drove has been sold!" - over the phone, sight unseen. I couldn't believe it.

He said however they had 4 more left awaiting processing in the compound and that he'd check the specs and price and see if one matched up. And if so, would I be interested. My mind was already made up at this point so I said yes. Head had, to an extent, overruled heart. I wanted options but these just seemed so cheap and seemed to be flying out of the door.. so I had to get in on this whilst I could!

He went away, came back after a few minutes and was (clearly relieved) to say they had another identical spec car with marginally more miles but still under 1,000.. same price.. so I shook his hand. Should be picking it up Wednesday! So I think it's basically a 1.2 Pop, 60 reg, black cloth, leather steering wheel, start & stop, blue & me.... obviously I haven't seen this one yet but obviously I'll be giving it a good check over before I pay the remainder of the balance when I come to collect it!

I'm really looking forward to it. Great little cars - bags of character. Couldn't get over how refined and smooth it felt on the test drive, despite it being about as cheap as they come and having such a small engine. I wouldn't be surprised if their entirely stock is now sold already.. I've managed to get a six month old car with less than a thousand miles on the clock for £2,000 off list price. Just glad I had the cash waiting :)

Looking forward to being part of this community now I'm an owner!

Sounds like you had a very eventfull day and congratulations on the new 'order'.

Whoop whoop! Exciting isn't it?! Have you got a name for her yet (I'm assuming it's a she)? x

Result indeed!

Sounds like you have indeed got a bit of a bargain. Shame you weren't able to see the actual car itself, but I'm sure it will all be fine anyway when you pick it up.

Blue&Me is a nice option to have on top as well though so happy days!

Presuming from what you said that it's a Pop without alloys then?

I bought mine on Saturday - a 1.2 Sport in electroclash grey with 9500 mile on the clock. Really pleased with it and hopefully will be collecting it on Wednesday/Thursday!

Congrats on the purchase muffin8118. Nice to see something a little different that a 1.2 Lounge in BNW or a TA in Volare.:)

Thanks everyone :) It's (predictably) white and is indeed a totally basic Pop with no alloys. I may well look to change that in the future though and keep the steelies as winter wheels.. but that will be the only modification I make.

We've hit a bit of a snag. I did an HPI check over the weekend and found the car still has outstanding finance on it. I spoke to the finance company concerned this morning and they did confirm that they still "had an interest" in the car. I'm hoping it's just a case of paperwork needing to catch up, etc. I've emailed the dealer in the mean time to quiz them on this...

But essentially if Wednesday rolls around and there is no clear answer on the finance situation, I'll either wait till it's sorted or walk away. Hopefully is just a non-issue though! :)

There was a thread on here before of a guy wanting to change his alloys to steelies and you can get some very nice hub caps as a 'stop gap' until you get the alloys you want.
I take it that the dealer has no cars with B&Me as an option.
Still a 'new' car for secondhand money is brillant.

Those hubcaps could be an option - cheers for the information! Would be good to see some on a car / in the flesh though to get an idea of what they look like.

Regarding Blue & Me, I believe my car has it.. I still don't know enough about the Fiat 500 and what it should / shouldn't have so I'll find all this out after I get it :)

Personally I couldn't live with the plastic wheel and the despite all the gremlins you hear about with the B&Me I think it's brillant. Plus you can't retrofit it like the alloys.:)

If it has the USB port, does that always mean it has B&M?

The term Blue and Me is used loosely and it refers to the Blue & Me and the Leather steering wheel with the controls - it is sold as a package. In essence if you have a USB socket then you have the 'package'. The newer one has an AUX socket as well and has the 5.5 software with the capability of 'hooking' directly to an iphone without the adapter. In Ireland it was €500 and used to cost around €700. In the UK I think it's around £500 but it's probably the one option that's worth getting on the Pop if your budget can stretch to it. Once you add on the alloys to the Pop (with the B&Me) then it becomes better value getting the Lounge or the Sport when it was available. Now the Twin Air can only be got with B&Me since the TA Pop was dropped.

A simple yes would suffice ;)

Yep - it has got Blue & Me then :) Definitely had a leather steering wheel, USB port and steering wheel controls. Well, the car I test drove had but I'm told the one I'm buying is identically specced...

... I appreciate any and all information! ...

Congratulations on choosing a 500. IMO the 1.2 is a great all-round car.

You will naturally be very enthusiastic when you go to collect it and it's important not to let that get in the way of giving it a very thorough checkover before parting with your cash. Be particularly vigilant in looking for panel damage and any signs of panel repair - if you find the latter, I'd suggest you just walk away.

Hopefully all will be well and then you can concentrate on enjoying your new purchase:).
