Technical How to fit DAB aerial to new fiat panda?

Hi all, i stumbled across this forum while googling around and this place looks great for fiat owners such as myself, so im glad to become a member of this site

Anyways, I have a new shape fiat panda (2005/06 model) which is the 1.1 active and im getting a DAB radio head unit for it. I need to fit a DAB aerial and for me nothing but the best will do, hence the need for an external mounting aerial to replace the current one.

Can anybody tell me the process of removing the original aerial, including the feeding of the cable and access the the routing of the cable as well as the process of fitting a new aerial and feeding this cable through the roof and body work?

Is it a difficult process?

...Just one other thing, is the cable on digital aerials different to standard aerial cables, or are they the same? If there the same then i could just replace the aerial on top of car and fit an adaptor, but if not then its gonna be the hard long drawn method of threading cables through tiny holes you cant get to :s

If it's the same as the Punto one, the aerial unscrews....Then the plastic mount cover gently prises off to reveal a captive threaded bolt which you unscrew to remove the aerial and reveal the cable....

As for whether you need a dedicated cable....Googling suggests not....

Why not just get a Pure Highway? I just run the aerial from the rear parcel shelf, between the back seats and have the unit under the handbrake which is also convenient for the power source, it is then easy to remove to use in my Berlingo when I want to.

I've got my Highway up on the front window, aerial stuck along the side of the window, works fine. I would have thought the tint would affect it more in the back?

The antenna cable is different for DAB.

I have a Blaupunkt DAB in my car with a glassmount on the front screen. Simple to fit as no messing with headling to run the cable.

Hi, how good is the signal from your screen mount aerial? Does it break up at all and what area is this in?

The screen mount aerial works really well. At first I thought 'this can't really be any good' but when i installed the interior part of the antenna, I tried the radio and got a signal, but when I offered up the exterior whip part to the screen, the signal meter on the front of my blaupunkt DAB flew up.

I live in Cardiff, and work in the Vale of Glamorgan. Only when I go into the centre of Bridgend do I lose signal. Everywhere else on my 50 mile daily journey is great. I have masses of channels too.
