Open the bonnet, and you will find an engine

Remove the battery, then the tray...which is a bit of a mans part.....remember the hidden 13mm bolt

Undo the air filter hoses

Undo other clips and hoses...they just need to be got out of the way

Undo the air filter intake, just a pop off affair

Undo the two 10mm bolts that hold the air filter housing to the car

Lift it out and place it out of the way

Next, the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter

This plug is locked on with the yellow tag which you need to prize it back a couple of mm

......and press the tag to pull the plug off

Undo the rocker breather pipe....

before you can pull this off, you have to undo a small vacuum pipe at the turbo (the one that operates the dump valve) and then you can remove the maf and its hose

Undo this hose from the intercooler to the intake, then remove it to inspect it for chafed bits

This is acceptable

Jack up the car to remove the wheel, but use an axle stand or the safety police will kick your ass.....unlikely, but the car may fall on your head

Remove the wheel

wheel off and here is a brake disc & caliper on a hub, behind which is a pair of 19mm bolts you need to remove to get the hub loose so you can undo the drive shaft

Drain the gearbox oil into a suitable container then remove the shaft...oh look, it's off

Remove the shaft. If it wont come off, hit it with a hammer a few times near the box, then pop it off with a lever. It should fall out

Stick the shaft out of the way

This loooks interesting...it's a 17mm bolt holding the body to gearbox earth wire

Is that a turbo?

Gearbox, lots of bolts

More bolts

I undid the slave cylinder and wrapped a heap of cable ties round it to prevent it popping out...unlikely, but knowing my luck

Whomever designed the placement of the starter on this needs to be taken to a wood and shot with a ball of their own excrement
I used a 13mm socket from my 1/4" set with a 3" extension. My advice is get a swear box and a million pounds of change :bang:

Seriously, undo the middle mount (engine/box to subframe), shove a hammer in between the engine & subframe to move it forward and stick a couple of bits of wood in. This will grant you access to the stupid, stupid, stupid starter motor. Two bolts, one thousand swear words

Undo the speedo drive or lose it

If you have a DPF, undo the little pipe from the sensor

Place a jack under the box and undo the bolt holding the box onto the side of the car and lower slowly so you can undo the bracketry

Three 17mm bolts holds this little beauty on to the box

BTW, I tied the caliper to the spring with a cable tie to prevent damage to the flexi

Most people undo both shafts, but because FIAT use gremlins or nano dwarves to fasten the stupid brackets that hold the long shaft to the block, I couldn't be arsed, so I left it fast to the block and slipped the gearbox away from it with help from a hammer and bit of wood as a drift.
Anyway, the box came away, but I didn't need to remove it all together as there was room. This meant I didn't need to undo the gear linkages.

Look at the state of the driven plate.

But worse, the previous owner obviously sat for great lengths of time with a fat leg and foot resting on the clutch pedal

As luck would have it, it's an LUK item, so should be simple enough to get tomorrow.
It is simple enough to put back together, but I may take some pictures for you
